This may sound corny but I have to say Tolken, because he was the author who got me hooked on reading, with the joy of reading. Hobbit was the first book that I read, and enjoyed. Now if its a good book I will read it I donnt care who wrote it. If the book does not hold my interest I have no problem putting the book down.
In my opinion Stephen King is the greatest author of all time. He definately is my favourite.
Hard to choose. Love Jane Austin, Lawrence Durrell, and Charles Dickens
Umberto Eco, Robert Ludlum, Uncle Scrooge.
I don't have a particular all-time favorite author, tho my favorite book has always been Alice in Wonderland, & Through the Looking Glass, by Lewis Carroll.
Fiction: H.P. Lovecraft. Non-fiction: Cornelius Ryan.
joseph heller or henning mankell or jo nesbo
I have to say Victor Hugo. His writting just appeal to me for some reason, from Les Misérables to Le dernier jour d'un condamné or Notre-Dame de Paris. His implication is also penomenal. I just love him !
Gabriel Marquez takes some beating... followed by George Orwell, Rudyard Kipling and Thomas Hardy ;-)
Whoever wrote "The Giving Tree" : )
Ann Rule is one of many!
James Baldwin and Anais Nin...
Stephen King!!!! :)
Um, Louis Althusser and Jacqueline Carey.
James A. Michener is amazing, but I have to say Stephen King. His stuff is just... so deeply thought provoking. It forces the brain to handle things on a couple different levels, to believe in la<x>yers of reality, to find unexpected connectivities. And he's also fricken awesome as a human being.
