Makes for a great bedtime story, doesn't it? "Now honey, God loves you, and is the most compassionate and forgiving being there ever was. Oh, and if you **** him off, you will burn forever. Sweet Dreams!"Like (1)

Actually Jewish god prescribes torture and happily proclaims he is an angry jealous god implying other gods are kind and benign

That passage shows just how "compassionate" the Christian god is... tormenting generations of descendants who didn't even commit the "crime". A "just" god indeed "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me." What goes around comes around. Time makes the necessary arrangements to let that happen smoothly. From the beginning of our life till the end of it, free will is our only controlling factor. Ultimately all is under control of God alone, but most of us have difficulty in understanding how He acts, since that is impossible without pure love of Him :)

We have free will but everything is under God's control. That is a contradiction.Like (1)

He doesn´t interfere with our free will, but uses the decisions we make in life to makes us understand that we are not at home here in this place of suffering. So it is His causeless mercy to purify our consciousness, no matter what we do. So we are totally dependent upon Him, in that way everything is under His control alone.Like (1)

The bible is filled with instances of torture condoned by and often instructed by, God. Aside from the obvious "you will burn in hell for all eternity, but hey, I still love you" arguments, there are other examples expressed in the bible. I have included just a few examples from both the Old and the New testaments to show this:
"I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh during the stress of the siege imposed upon them by the enemies who seek their lives" (Jeremiah 19: 9, NIV) Forcing cannibalism upon people, making them eat their loved ones... torture.
"A day of the Lord is coming when your plunder will be divided among you. I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped" (Zechariah 14: 1- 2, NIV) Raping is a form of torture, just ask any woman who has gone through that hell.
"If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girls father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives" (Deuteronomy 22: 28 - 30, NIV) Making a woman marry her rapist and forcing her to live with him the rest of her life... yeah, that's torture.
"They (Locusts) were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not given the power to kill them, but only to TORTURE them for five months. And the Agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. During those days men will seek death, but will not find it: they will long to die, but death will elude them" (Revelations 9:4 - 6, NIV version) It specifically calls this torture.. no explanation necessary.Like (1)

Perhaps it was the people who transcribed the Bible who got it wrong, rather than those pointing out that torture isn't godly.

Transcribing may result in minor mistakes, how can deeds worthy of a demon can be attributed to a so-called godLike (1)

Condone it, it practices it. It is the most absurd thing about Christianity. God is compassionate but for the great crime of not being convinced by a ridiculous story you will be tortured for eternity. A concept that would sicken Hitler and Stalin. It is the reason that I find Christianity so vile and ultimately contradictory. Thank God it isn't true ;)
