One of mine would have to be General U.S. Grant. Grant was thought to be a bumbling idiot and a drunk. Because he had been a West Point graduate, when the Civil War broke out, he volunteered his services to the state of Illinois. He was made a colonel of volunteers. He soon rose to Brigadier General and took his brigade out to fight and he won his first battle. He must have liked because he quickly developed the habit. He took forts Henry and Donelson and took Tennessee and Kentucky out of the war, and then took Missouri out of the contest, and then turned his attention to opening the Mississippi River. Yet, in spite of the rumors of his being a drunk (the rumors were started by Henry Halleck), he never listened to the rumors, never got involved in the politics, and he concentrated on his job. The underdog from Illinois became the only Union general who never lost a battle; he took the city of Jackson, Mississippi and opened that river, splitting the Confederacy in half; the only Union general to defeat the Army of Northern Virginia, and he was the only Union army to eliminate the armies that he was engaged against. And throughout all his military accomplishments, nobody believed he could anything but get drunk. Odd thing was, he never drank during a military campaign.
