As pretty much everybody has already pointed out, when referring to the lands of ancestors, countries are often called the motherland...<br />

The other dichotomy of which you refer is Mother Earth and Father Time... between the two, they represent the time-space continuum...<br />

the one has nothing to do with the other. To compare them would be a fallacy of logic. But what you are observing is the tendency for people psychologically to see places we live as like parents as well as origins (again like parents) and to give them nicknames to reflect that. So like "the motherland", "the fatherland", the "mother ship", "homeland", "mother earth"(nature being where we came from), "heavenly father" (a god being creator, and therefore origin, of all of us), etc, just to name a few examples.
