I think they should still be called actresses after all they female and the hell with that political correctness crap. And female singers will they want to be called singors? sorry, I just had to put that in... But I do believe in equal rights, so...
Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories were still alive and kicking at the Oscars just last month...<br />
Otherwise, I think it's just an umbrella term (e.g. way of identifying a group of possibly both male and female), like saying poets instead of poets & poetesses, or even the common greeting of "Hey guys" when the group contains both boys and girls. There's just not a "unisex" way of altering it like police officer or firefighter (instead of policeman and fireman).
