I've been looking around for CPR classes and the only ones I could find are these 6 hour long things that cost over $80. And these aren't even the ones lifeguards or other professionals take for certification. As far as I can tell, they are just for individuals who want to learn it for personal reasons. I remember learning basic CPR in my health class in high school which took less than a hour and was free. Is there some law that says you can't learn CPR unless it's by a certified professional that charges $80 for a day long class? I can understand the liability issues if you go around thinking you're an EMT and do it wrong, but what if you just want to learn the basics incase a family member drowns in a pool?

Heres how it works..<br />
Costs -> A couple of dollars to get that peice of paper mailed to you saying your certified<br />
A one time fee to buy equipment for you guys (this is expensive but costs are soon recuperated)<br />
An annual fee to have someone teach them to instruct<br />
<br />
Gains -> You pay and others pay.. and they can make up to a couple grand a day<br />
<br />
No its not charity. It is their job. They are there to make money and very few people actually do it cheaply because they believe it is a good cause. Most do it as a second job to pick up extra cash. There are many many other medical courses out there that teach you other things that are there to teach you but mainly to take your money. CPR - C, First Aid, ITLS, ect<br />
<br />
As for doing it wrong? If someone is in actual cardiac arrest at least try. Its better than leaving them. They can't get much worse right?<br />
<br />
So yeah.. It should be cheaper.. It needs to be cheaper and its definitely one of those things that should be taught for free or at a minimal cost at local community centers. Its there to save lives. Not to take your money

Those Star Wars robots may not look much but they are expensive

They have to be basicly life saving corses.<br />
Because do it wrong and you will kill someone!<br />
<br />
You should have been told in the basic corse..."if your not confidant........dont do it"<br />
Find the best trainer you can...better still talk to some E.M.T.`s or lifegards and get some reconmendations.<br />
<br />
I`ll admire you for wanting to learn...but if you really want it...is money really that big of a concern?<br />
I wish you good luck with it and hope you find an really good teacher.
