i have a short haired foriegn white (white siamese) and it wont let the other cats sit on anyone elses lap. I think this is a terroritry thing . As for sharing and fairness , cats in the wild just dont do it , for survival its me me me , also they are pin heads and only think about their holes .

Hi SummerWind18
I think that they compete on one level but at another level are social animals and are content as a group. I have 4 cats and they have a harmony but it is a dynamic harmony. Every now and again you see the peace amongst them but then they battle again. Funnily they do not compete much across the sexes. Boys compete with boys and girls with girls - maybe that true of humans too?

Do you think you could be a cat psychologist?

It depends on the cats. I have two boys who are close to the same age so they basically "grew up" together, and one girl who is several years older and doesn't like to be around other animals. The boys are pretty good about sharing their space, food, and toys, but the girl gets VERY angry and growls if the other cats come near her. It's a territory thing, I think. She was here first, why should she share the bed? But the other two have always shared space, so it's not a big deal.

Cats do not have packs the way dogs do. Cats have a pecking order, a dynamic heirarchy of who is more important. So while they can be social with each other, there are constantly changing limits in place.
