Because people are superficial a**holes. Most times a person not easy on the eyes, once You get to know them have an inner beauty that makes them more attractive. MOST TIMES

I'm not sure if that's true. I'd have to research the statistics and studies.
I knew a fellow student at art school who was one of the ugliest human beings, physically, that I've ever laid eyes on, yet he was one of the most popular, and I never saw or heard of anyone mistreating him.
He had an inner glow of personality that shone from his eyes. He was intelligent and highly creative.
If you listened carefully so you could understand his distorted sounds, what he said was always interesting.
He knew people loved him, and walked about with relaxed and open body language. He seemed to see into the essence of people and accept them how ever he found them. I think we all felt this and responded warmly to it.

Beauty delights most people, and subconsciously many relate physical attractiveness with positive personality traits. Conversely, some people (not all) relate a less than perfect exterior with negative traits. Not fair at all, but there have been several social experiments that verify it does happen.
