    Why though? It's an unnecessary charge....that's like charging to use a computer keyboard.

    Of course. The why is: WE PAY IT and most people would prefer to pay rather than lose the service. If 90% of people didn't buy the text option, it would become free. But people like it, so they pay

    A few years ago texting was free, but the companies realized that with so many people texting more than actual calling they were losing out on so much coin. I'm happy to say that they aren't making any money off of me that way!

    If you want a plan that involves unlimited texting, you will have to pay more. That's how it works. The monster of corporate greed.
