Think of something you've worked really hard on in the past. Now think of how you felt when you accomplished what you set out to do. Relationships are no different. It's hard work, but in the end, if it's meant to be, the feeling is unmatched. In other words, nothing worth while is not without hardships. Your hard work will benifit you no matter what the outcome.

Because it involves two different individuals with varying views on life, opinions, interests, ways of handling situations, habits, temperament, etc. Each person has had different experiences in their lives and so have interpreted and come to understand the world in their own way; through their own perception of reality.

So you can see now why honesty and total communication between people in a relationship would be crucial for its success.

They just are. Why? Self sacrifice, honesty and loyalty are qualities sadly lacking in most humans. But with luck, after experiencing enough of life's ups and downs we end up learning to honor such things... if only begrudgingly...

There is a Jewish teaching that when God creates each person's soul, before they are born, He matches it to another soul, which is your bashert, or perfect partner. Some teach that God creates multiple matches for each person. The thing about your bashert, though, is that the only way for the match to be perfect is for both souls to have lived their lives and matured to their full spiritual potential. In other words, because people inevitably sin, even a relationship between you and your match made in heaven will not be completely perfect or compatible; you will still have to work out issues and put a lot of effort in. By striving to be better people together, you can make the job easier over time though, and certainly love makes it all worthwhile. Just because you have a lot of difficult things to get through to make a relationship work doesn't mean it's not meant to be!

Because humans are complex enough on their own, but things get three times more complicated when you put two separate humans together and try to make it work. Relationships are taming the impossible. It's not so much a question of why it's so much work. Actually you should be asking: why does it ever work?

Because anything great worth having is hard work. But well worth it.
