Why are students abusing drug and alcohol more now then ever?

People are idiots. is like the answer to every question on here.

They're not. If anything, they're using them less. Students use these things for the same reasons adults do: because they're fun and relieve stress. It's nice to get high, and plus, it's an adventure, risky and all that. Who's fault is that piece? The parents and the schools. They make drugs and alcohol sound so awful and so forbidden that by the time kids are exposed to them they are certain that they must have magical properties and shove as much of the stuff into their bodies as possible, not realizing what a bad idea that is. Kids need to be taught that moderation is the key. There's always going to be the stupid ones who OD, but drug and alcohol abuse would go down if people stopped making such a big deal out of it. Once kids know that something is not a big deal, they're not going to turn it into one. Some news you might like though: as a high school student, I do know that most teenagers have tried drugs, but only a very small percentage use them regularly.
