Why are there so many LUXURIES in prisons (and jail)?

Doesn't being in prison mean you're supposed to be on punishment? I mean it seems like the folk behind bars are living better than me and what's worse, it's at my expense as a tax payer. Why do prisons have cable tv? Why are there so many drugs in prison? Why are there libraries and schools in prison? I don't even think they should have electric or hot water in prison. Hell, Oprah said on tv not too long ago that a lot of her fan base comes from prisons. WTF? Why are they allowed to have a descent means of life, while i and everyone else have to pay for it. There is more sex in prison, than there is on the damned streets. Just about every drug you can think of is in every prison in America. Prisoners are even allowed to have name brand clothes. They arent going nowhere but to a damned 6x6 cell & the cafeteria? -- COMMENTS THAT ARE MEANT TO OFFEND ANYONE WILL BE DELETED - **dianeselwyn and Donikian both disagree with me - THEIR COMMENTS REMAIN - they are not offensive.

dianeselwyn, there is a problem with the fact that people who break the law get a FREE education when very hard working, law abiding citizens basically have to sell their body parts to go to university! rehabilition is one thing but a free education is another...

Another thing, another thing those jerks are gettin is that food! Why, back in the middle ages people just picked whatever they could grow out of fields fertilized with their own crap, and then boiled it all together and gagged it down. We should take a lesson from thems we should. And don't get me started on the TOILETS! Why, those people should be glad we let them poop at all. I mean, it's a right to defecate! We should be railing for cork butt plugs rather than prisoner rights! Really. I'm ashamed of this country. There's nothing that says civilization like treating prisoners like human beings. Bah! everton13	Posted Jul 21st, 2009 at 10:46AM This makes me so angry the message here is that crime pays.This was the question I was trying to put across not so long ago on why decent people have no rights in this country U.K. I did not word it as elequently as you but I am looking forward to reading the answers. Young girls over here get pregant early because they know they will be housed by this stupid person and then the decent tax payers have to support them.Too many wrong things going on.
