Advertising is more effectively geared towards younger people because they haven't made up their minds yet, by the time a person is 18 they already know what they like.

Because society isn't happy with just plain old young any more, now they must have little children faces. if you notice, they even try to pick adults (when they're FORCED to, like for a toilet cleaning commercial) who often have child-like qualities about their appearance, such as a rounder face, bigger eyes, etc..
