Why are we eating horse meat?

I've heard it was because horse and donkey carts were outlawed on roads in Romania, because they are wanting to make it a modern country....and that they were sold very cheaply for $50 each and meat producers took advantage of the price and decided to butcher them and sell them to various companies. Doesn't make a lot of sense even though there may have very well been a lot of greed at the top of the companies. Too many people involved in the sales, butchering and processing to keep it a secret from the public. More like they are going to start culling humans as well in the near future and are beginning with the horses and other animals that won't be needed. The poorer people depended on horse and donkey carts because they didn't require expensive gasoline. Now they'll have to walk, ride a bike or get transportation that requires fuel. This whole scenario is making me think of Soylent Green.
