I don't suppose that the word, "transvestite" has a gender attached to it.
The gender boundaries are just so much clearer when a man puts on womens clothing than when an woman wears mens clothing. During an era when women didn't wear trousers, perhaps it might have been different.
Because women get the luxury of wearing pants without it being considered "weird". Unfortunately men aren't afforded that same luxury. Good time to be a lady. :)
Ah... Well, in that case I'm pretty sure they would be considered transvestites. I think that it is just more common to see male transvestites than it is to see female transvestites... Since a lot of women dress casual these days. When a man is a transvestite he typically picks extremely feminine clothing--such as skirts, dresses, high heels, etc.
Because its done for a different reason. Most women wear pants as women, even the ones who wear pants to look butch are still doing it as women. Men who wear skirts and are transvestites wear skirts along with make up, fake breasts etc with the aim of dressing as a woman. Also women wearing pants started out as women wanting to be somthing other then a pair of legs, while having the freedom to move around as pants are more functional and can also look smart like a skirt can. A skirt on a man is seen as not needed for any practical or political reasons as men can wear shorts in the summer. Men have not asked to wear skirts as men so it is not done by average men, only by men who are dressing as women or seeking to become women. Gay men dont even wear skirts unless there doing drag! When women started wearing trousers it was a big deal, some thought it was immoral as it seperated the womans legs, others were bothered they could not see the legs. Today there are some female transvestites, but there not called that, instead there called drag kings or crossdressers. They also dont make skirts for men, so people know he is wearing a womans skirt. Just like they dont make ties for women, so women dont wear a suit with a tie and if she did she would be called a dyke instead.
preconceived notions as to what's acceptable,it wasn't all that long ago that women in pants were scorned and perhaps jailed..it seems that the times have changed a bit,and when i get fitted for a dress,i think the times need to change a tad more.fashion can be baffling
you have to use your imagination, some wear it most of the time and some wear it for special occasions, have you seen that video from shania twain? some know how to rock it!!!!!!!!!
cause she looks more woman than anything even with men's clothes
