Why can't I live simply?

I was never for changing the world or raising a family. My dream is to have a steady teaching job and live in a decent one-room apartment alone.

Everyone seems to look down on that. Am I a waste of space for just wanting to simplify my life?

I've always thought that if people just simplified their own lives, stopped buying and doing things they didn't need to, the world would follow.

Free will is a beautiful thing. It is a shame people look down on others just because their dreams are different, or not in the mainstream. I applaud you for doing what you want because you are the only person you should have to answer to. Forget what everyone else thinks. Life will be much simpler that way.

Hey, I think that's great! That's all I want to do; get a regular old job, get a small apartment to live in, and live my life. People are so hung up on thinking dreams have to be huge and world-changing; but it's not true. Ignore those that criticize and tell them to go save the world while you enjoy your simplicity.

YOu can live simply. You should you are.!!!

Why feel as a waste of space because of that ?

Seen E True Hollywood story ? Some of those are a total waste of oxigen. Ok, a bit cruel, but this is what happened when they worship possessions and forget about the simple joys of life.
Once the possessions are gone and that can happen very quickly in life, what is left to live for in those sad cases ?

Enjoy your life. !!

Well, it is possible, and you are doing it the best you know how!

Everyone is responsible for their own lifestyles - from where they stand in the NOW moment; and everybody's choice in that should be respected by others. And the person themelves need not be swayed by what others think of, or MIGHT think of, their choice. Critics should be gently reminded that they can judge all they like, but its not their place to do so, and will not make the slightest bit of difference to one's resolve to live how one designs and wishes!

In my humble opinion.

There is nothing wrong with what you are doing. we all should only buy what we need, use only what we have to, and be happy doing it. What others think is not important if you are happy with yourself.

Apparently you can. The problem is, others don't want you to.

I think you read my mind. All of my college friends have high-paying, powerful jobs and are part of the country club set. I opted to teach and have a small house and be happy to be able to pay all my bills. Even then it seemed that I was expected to only use teaching as a stepping stone to administration. Seems that all of my teacher friends from college are all pulling down the big bucks with those jobs, but you know what? We have much lower stress and enjoy what we do every day. Few people can say that and really mean it. Another thing, I have discovered that most of those high-wage earners are living off as much credit as wages. Simplicity has its advantages. Live your life the way you want.

Pay no heed to those who look down on you for living as you chose to live. Such an attitude is often an indication that they actually envy your sitaution.

I never had any great ambition and have been content to be a stay-at-home mother for many years.
I pay no mind to those shrill feminist types who have tried to tell me that I should feel unfulfilled.
I DON'T - and they will just have to accept that.
