Fear. Willful ignorance. Desperation.

Times were tough and Hitler gave people an easy out. He promised economic and national security to a Germans who could barely feed their family. He promised pride to a nation that had been defeated on every level possible.

He gave them a scapegoat to shift the blame onto.

Heady stuff.

Complete moral collapse of a nation- Hitler promised them the world; that they wouldn't be humiliated again like they were in WW1- they went along with him, forgetting to think for themselves and instead became caught up in a political ideology ba<x>sed on faith, hope, hatred and sentimental collective self-regard for their own race and nation. He became like a god, and they hung on to his every word...and it all ended in tears.

the logic goes as follows: they were down, had a broken back from the last war, wanted tvengeance...natural instincts, up to that point. the others had laid them in chain for losing a war...and that was a war incited by Bismarck, who forged letters of the Kaiser and so brought germany and france to a point of no return, insulting the french in the name of the Kaiser, if indirectly...why? because he wanted to forge an EMPIRE...and that war gave him the reason to force annect all german provinces to one military structure. later on, hitler did exactly the same thing. but while Bismark had to pot and plan carefully to archieve his goal, that being war...little adolph had all prepared for him. he was a poor, an outcast of jewish society, as they see 1/4 blooded ones of their own kind as bastards (and I know that view from a rabbi I once met by chance, in a cafe...and he chose this theme to talk). Well, he was poor, he went commie, cause he was also a bum for a time. he fled from military draft in austria, but was force recruited by the bavarians then. there he met those who would later make him chancellor. but, the commies were crushed where he was, by "right-wing" fanatics. little adi sold his "commie" buddies out, denounced every single...traitor from the beginning. it was no sooner than then he joined the nazi movement - in short, little adi was then part of their failed revolt...was imprisoned, wrote his "kampf"...I'm quite sure that he became finally "evil" becasue of the abuse and treatment from bavarian law. Adolf Schickelgruber went into prison...Adolf Hitler left that hole. The law had created a monster, bent on vengeance, even if the world wouold burn for it. NOW, we're coming to the question you asked...but one has to know the backlground to know the result...
he ws raised to position by the right wingers, who used him as a kind of charismatic galleon figure...then, he rose so rapidly in public power that the didn't need those who had brought himm there anymore.
By some unnatural, fperhaps "demonic" influence some say...I say he told the people of that broken back country what they wanted to hear. They laid in shambles, were financially broke and had lost "their faces" to a lost war...the madnman preached to them, that they were "the greatest nation/race in the world", that they "deserved their place at the pinacle of humans, as ubermenschen". That way didn't work in the 1930/40 s, and It DIDNT work post 2000. ANYWAY...the people heard him tell those lies, and so, felt "right" in every sense of the word. He bred hope from hopelessness. He built up a dangerous "we are the best" cult in them and rode them to hell. blind obedience to the state leads into hell on earth. so don't trust them bastards...for next time, its WW3, and NO one is gonna survive THAT one.

You'd have to think like a German living in the early 1930s. Consider this for a moment:

You lost a war, which you insist you never lost because your army never surrendered. Your country has been slapped with obscenely costly reparations and parts of it have been carved out and given to other countries, without your consent. You remember "better times" before the Great War started, when most Germans enjoyed a high standard of living and a great deal of security and confidence. After the Great War, you have "democracy." But you starved as your country was left destitute after the war, your lifes savings gone, revolutions breaking out and armed militias taking to the streets. A few years later, you've worked so hard to save up some well-earned cash, only to see it all become worthless when you find that to buy a loaf of bread you need to carry a wheelbarrow full of reichsmarks to the local store. Armed gangs continue to roam around the cities, and weekly assassinations are nothing shocking or unusual. Things then go well for a few more years, once again you save up and work hard, and yet again all your efforts are for nothing once the Depression eats into your savings like a locust swarm to a grainfield. You lose your job, you lose your sense of self-worth, you might even lose your home when you can't afford to live in it anymore. You begin to grow hungry, and desperate, and suggestive, wanting someone, anyone, to blame for these terrible misfortunes.
Now this charasmatic fellow called Adolf comes along, and with a rousing speech that resonates in your very core, you feel something deeply precious stir within you. His party, the National Socialists, are the very definition of order, stability and security, and promises you that once they get into the Reichstag, you will never be hungry, never feel scared, never feel depressed and worthless, ever again. You are a German, and you should be proud! Democracy? BAH! What has democracy ever done for you other than drag you noble Germans into the gutter for all these painful, deeply humiliating years? None of this is your fault either, you have nothing to be ashamed of. It was the JEWS! The filthy, parasitic, disgusting Jews and those subhuman Marxists who stabbed the proud German Reich in the back! THEY ARE TO BLAME!

Does that answer your question?

He told them what they wanted to hear but didn't tell them the price they would have to pay to make the government the way he advocated. A typical politician with a good gift of enthralling people looking for hope and change.

Germany was suffering from very low self esteem after W.W. I Hitler came along and fed them the right kind of bullshit and backed him.

For exactly the same reason people follow any millitary or political leader.
They listerned to the arguments of hitler and his opponants and decided that he was the better option.

There is no shame in making a mistake...Like choosing the wrong leader to lead your country....
The shame is when you try to hide the facts and forget the lesons you learnt from your mistakes.
