Well it could be that he still loves you but he isn't in love with you. Often people still care about people even if things didn't turn out. I do.

Yeah, I hear ya! I think over 40 and they go a little "gaga" in the membrane now and again. Not really sure what it's about but hey, I just go with it....and just "nevermind".........LOL

It sounds as if he might be regretting whatever happened between you.
If he ended the relationship, I think I'd let him stew in his own juices, and not even bother to reply.
If you ended the relationship, ask yourself if you really want to re-open that situation and deal with any emotional fallout for yourself, or for him, and maybe consider just letting it go.
