Why didn't this person survive? why did he die?

The teenager in question had gotten trapped in a leg-scissors hold that restricted his windpipe and made him unable to breathe. A scissor such as this can exert about 200 pounds of pressure (not pounds per square inch) now people fighting for their lives have an adrenaline rush and even really weak people have lifted 2000 pound cars with just their arms so I can't see why this guy, who was average/big, couldn't lift 200 pounds of squeeze to get the legs off of his throat. the paper says he struggled for his life for many minutes. The guy doing it was slim and weak.

Adrenaline isn't more powerful than lack of oxygen to the brain and you have to remember that both guys would have been on adrenaline. A blood choke will render someone unconscious in 5-8 seconds. Also you have to factor in body mechanics; lifting a dead weight is different to pulling apart someone's legs.

there are always more to the circumstance than the simple mechanical facts.... i doubt that we ever know the entire truth. also adrenaline does not always exactly as expected. sad that he died in such circumstances - was he a friend?

Apparently, he was not that weak, and he got the hold just right on the guy picking on him. Either absolutely no one or absolutely everyone picks on the skinny guy now, but everyone thinks the dead guy was a fool.

Legs are far more powerful than arms.

forgot to add, that in a scissor hold, you can lock your feet together, if you get it right, the other guy doesn't stand a chance.

you cant lock your feet in a figure 4 scissor hold and a normal scissor hold (where you can) cuts off blood flow, not just the ability to breathe like in the case.
