Loud-mouthed Christians are hypocrites usually. Jesus preached humility, meekness and forgiveness.
PW8iron - you're deliberately reading me out of context - reread the question and then my direct answer
Because many Christians have this pathological and retarded need to be right about EVERYTHING and to slam those that don't agree with them; even if other Christians have beliefs that differ from each other. EVERYONE just HAS to believe what they do or they're not Christians/They're going to hell.<br />
It's stupid. Which is why I'm SO glad I don't classify myself as being under the Christian label anymore. -_- I don't have the time, patience, or energy for that kind of pettiness. It gets in the way of learning.
Thank you ^_^
U R living now in what i prefer to call ( COMFORTABLE ILLUSION)
Oh am I? By all means, attempt to enlighten me then.
You by your own words are being as judgemental as the Christians you put down!
How is she a hypocrite, if she doesn't identify as a Christian ? She's not obliged to follow their rules. They're the ones who are hypocrites, espousing rules THEY don't follow.
I'm sorry you feel that way. So many times the petty religiosity of "Christians" pushes people away. That's why he asked the question I guess because the people treating others like that probably don't fit the description laid out by Christ: love your neighbor.
I have a theory that it's the squeaky wheel syndrome. The Christians who are acting like turtlesplash said earlier don't act like this but there are some that do and make the most noise so we notice them.
I don't understand the being right thing you mentioned; the greatest Christians I know have a sort of "I'm just the empty packaging and Jesus is anything great within me" mentality-maybe the squeaky wheel ones are being like that-I try not to pay attention to them. There's a band called Jars of Clay-that's where they got their name from because back in the Bible people used jars of clay to carry things & then just discarded the clay (old school version of plastic wrapping on packages today).
I do understand where you're coming from about hell. Basically, the Bible teaches that we are all sinners and don't deserve to go to Heaven. Heaven is perfect; if we all brought just a little sin it would be a dump in no time. God could have been like I told you not to sin and you did anyway so forget you…but he didn't. The Bible also says that God loved us so much that he sent his only son (Jesus) to die in our place. He will take our sin if we let him & then we get washed up and can come into Heaven. No sin is too great if we repent. I gratefully accepted this offer-wow I had done some bad stuff in my day (and still do bad things but I do try to be right with Jesus.)
Sometimes Christians sort of get carried away trying to bang others over the head with this message but that is out of line. I heard a GREAT message that might help: "the Bible is a mirror, not a window"-in other words, it is for us to examine our own lives with, not to judge others with.
Hope this helps. By the way, HTML code doesn't seem to work on EP, that's why I use periods to separate lol.
Yes this is correct they all fight against each other you have to worship either the Catholic way or the Protestant way Oh well how many ways can one worship the one God and still be a Christian lol
Same as is God white or black lets face it once coloured people had to worship in a coloured church.
I am not a Christian either thank goodness for that
She was not exactly judging she was voicing truth they do fight amongst each other I was in fact once told Catholics are not Christian then the Jehovah's do not acknowledge those that do not worship their way either .
I why does it cause so much disapproval to marry out of say one Church into another it is all Christian. Not talking other religions here only the Christian one.
Ha Ha in other words empty cans make the most rattle very true the ones who make the most noise are the ones who get the most attention.
I'm sorry you've only experienced negative. There's no one way to worship God. Being a Christian is about loving others & getting forgiveness, that's all. People muddy that message up sometimes.
Jehova's Witness is a cult for that reason. To my knowledge they don't even celebrate holidays or read anything other than cult-approved literature and believe they have to buy their way into Heaven by going door to door. I don't think they even worship Jesus except as a prophet.
Catholocism does tend to be about the rituals more than the Gospel, that's why the Protestant Reformation took place. A Catholic can definitely be Christian, though; it just depends if their focus is on God/being forgiven or on the saints, relics, and compulsively repeating a prayer, etc.
Catholocism sort of became like the Pharosies back in Jesus' time but it doesn't have to be like that for a Catholic.
Talk is cheap how much would you give for another ? When was the last time you walked in sack cloth and ashes.
Ever thought of giving up part of your two car garage for a homeless person
And how much do you forgive
Forgiveness is a hard thing it does not come easy very well to say practice forgiveness but how far will your practice go ?
It is ok to tell a none Christian about Christianity when living a comfortable life try telling the homeless who frequent the food kitchens where Christians have the time of their lives showing their charitable faces to all who would care to look.
Try telling it to someone who is cradling their dying animal while people walk pass them on their way to church. Not heeding the plea to help get the animal to a vet.
Talk my friend is cheap.
They think their own irrational beliefs are correct and those other irrational beliefs aren't.
I don't know that any belief is wholly rational. Because belief is not really voluntary it's hard to see how far a word like 'reason' can be applied to belief. In the strictest philosophical sense at least. Some beliefs seem more rational than others of course, but no two people reason quite the same way.
Your description, of what I imagine is supposed to be the big bang, would be as accurate as if I described the biblical story of jesus as a fire breathing dragon who hanged pontius pilate.
Because anyone who is hateful and intentionally harms others can't call themselves a Christian.
Ha Ha if everybody took that for gospel there would not be a church standing with what has been going on in them.
cause theyre judging and its wrong
Christ said you will know a tree by its' fruit. True christians bear true fruit, many people who call themselves christian do not.
Christians are afraid and they use their judgment of others to feel more comfortable, the problem is these people cant be happy with doing this once they tend to become addicted and they need to condemn more and more. I feel sorry for people who have been spiritually harassed by these people. I hope one day they will learn how to keep what they supposedly feel spiritually to themselves. I am no christian I have invented my own "religion" I guess you could label it that, but the point is that I have never felt inferior if I didnt have a mob behind me to show others that I am right. It all seems childish to me. On top of that I would be kind of annoyed if someone did start to echo my beliefs because each person is different and no spiritual path can be the same in my heart.
two reasons, 1)Some people just say they are Christians, but don't follow any of the rules and commandments of the faith 2)And the other reason is some some people are judgmental, condescending jerks
they fall into category number 2 to me.... but the problem with that is that occasionally (historically speaking) churches like the catholic church have been known to fall into both categories
Which is hilarious when you think about it LoL After all, it is Catholicism that is the mother of modern-day Christianity XD Ironic much?
yes just mentioned that they say because they first pray to Mary but Mary is prayed to because she is the messenger straight to God so to speak a sort of an intermediary.
Saves waiting on hold on the royal telephone costing you money she answers straight away lol.
Bit like an email or fax
some Christians have a "more Christian than thou" attitude. They think their own personal brand of Christianity is the only right way
We seem to forget at the end of this life ... There is a judgement !
and there are 5 witch one are you going to be in??
Because Mormons are not Christians, they are a cult.
Didn't they make up their own personal equivalent of the Bible ? That was what always made me doubtful. I'm not a practising Christian, but I understood the Bible was THE holy book.
bb: my understanding is that the Book of Mormon qualifies as fabricated but Mormons take it as true, just as other varieties take their bible as perfectly true. Since there are so many book versions now and corresponding faiths it can hardly be argued there is ONE book. If a person loved their neighbor, isn't that a Christian life?
"Treating others as you would have them treat you" was always what I thought was the crux of it, yes. But people are continuously telling me there's "more" to it than that. ;)
well, you know what they say, sometimes the truth hurts.
Because some Christians take their religion more seriously than other Christians, most Christians these days don't do much but believe in God and hardly go to church, whereas many other Christians are busy doing ceremonies and lessons each Sunday and praying every night. I mean the Christians who lack the profecy should just be Agnostic, but I don't know maybe they just don't have time for church, trust me I'm in the same water -_-, haven't been to church since like August. (Personal Reasons.)
cause buddha told them to do it.
Buddha did no such thing. mx:))
Because some are annoyingly religious, while others, like me, are normal, are considered moderate Christians, and we are more accepting of modern society ideals, non-Christians, and the LGBT community.
I am trying to get in touch with my Christian faith though again a little bit because I'm starting college soon, and the temptation to do wrong is ever present there. Still, I don't take the bible literally word for word. I believe a lot of the context is symbolic. Some of it is literal and some of it is figurative.
Also when many religious Christians read the Bible on a regular, weekly, day-day 24/7 basis they start over-analyzing phrases, verses, and passages, taking each of them as the literal truth. Then they get nearly extremist ideas that I don't believe that the Bible intended to get across as a message.
@gch1995, There shouldn't be such a thing as religious Christians. You either take your faith seriously, or you don't. Or else you're just a hypocrite. (I'm not directing this at YOU personally.)
God that studying the bible regularly is how you will strengthen faith, learn to appreciate Jesus' sacrifice, gain everlasting life, learn who God is, learn the purpose of humans, learn about the past, the present, and the future of the world, and even learn about how not to be a hypocrite. So many things...
The point is: There isn't a sorta kinda way to be a Christian. We are supposed read, study, and analyze the bible because God doesn't accept forced or half-hearted worship. Yet how can a person know anything about God, Jesus, and many other important things if they don't take the bible seriously and study it?? How will they know what's meant to be taken literally, and what the illustrations or symbols for things are? (Jesus used a lot of illustrations to get his point across clearly and effectively to people he preached to, for example.) The answer is that they can't.
I will be honest that I want to make friends, but I do not want to make friends that bash what I believe in. I am into read God's word. My favorite time a day is spending time with God. I love going to church. My dad was a Mennonite like higher level of Amish, so he taught us how to read the bible, how to pray,go church, live out our faith in God and follow the Holy Bible too. I praying for God to reach the lost and God is love. Satan is blinding the lost from God's truth, so I pray for the lost too. God bless you. Talk to you later.
Everyone is judgemental of others and their actions because it is so much easier to point out others misdeeds and faults than to look inside yourself and point out our own! The Bible is just another crutch some people use to try and make themselves higher than the rest to try and preach what they feel is "right"! Like a soapbox on top of the podium!
I find that Christians tend to immidiately dismiss anything that the members of their religion do bad. They refuse to recognize that some of them are extremists. It is one thing to denounce actions of one religion's member, but it is another thing to claim that such a person does not belong to Christianity. <br />
Also, Christians are hypocrites about this towards other religions, especially Muslims. If Muslims denounce the actions of some bad Muslims (and they do! and I am one of those who does not agree with Muslim extremists and their views), Christians dismiss it as if no other non-Christian person can claim that they are not the same as the rest of the "religious" bunch. Christianity for centuries was used by many as means to opress and destroy socieites. Just because today majority of Christians do not agree with such evil done in their religion's name, does not mean that others' religions are bad or evil. Islam, Judaism, and other religions can also be used by evil people for evil means but does not mean that those religions are evil.
because they believe in Christ a different way from what they expect.
Man, something about Christians rub me the wrong way...<br />
It's like they look for a reason to persecute anybody...<br />
But steadily have their noses in the bible and in church<br />
Your finger pointing doesn't make you holy...that's selfish...
The only reason you feel bad is when you have no fellowship with God, and most of you want to justify your sinful
Darkness hates the light!
