Why do Christians like to quote the Bible whenever there's a debate going on about God/Jesus?

Wouldn't it be nice if you interpret it with your own common sense? Not taking sides, but I am really wondering...

Because they are kept ignorant about where the bible comes from, who actually wrote the various books of the bible, and who picked and choose the books to be included and why they choose only certian books to include. It should be read cover to cover to get the big picture, not hunted and picked through to be twisted to say what they want it to say like every christian leader dose.

Because the the Bible is the authority on Jesus and God,where else would anyone know about them if not for the Bible.

I quote the Tao Te Ching and Socrates all the time. Heck, I'll quote a rap star if he's got something profound to say.

We quote the bible to establish what we are saying is not just our own made up personal opinion but that it has scriptural support. We quote the bible to show where we gained the views we have.

When one is discussing a subject with no actual proof or foundation in evidential material its the only real response. Rhetoric.

Because they can't exactly run into a debate armed with logic, can they? They believe that a talking snake convinced a rib-woman to eat from a magical tree for fxcks sake.
