Originally, in the early formation of Christianity, it comprised an 'inner-circle' and 'outer-circle' of adherents. The inner circle perpetuated the 'mystical' aspects of Christ- members of this circle, themselves, given to the practise of mysticism. The outer circle tended to be those who perpetuated written works of concerning Christ prevalent at the time and were not privy to the inner circle's workings. The inner circle availed themselves of considerable literature not found within the bible.

There are any number of other gospels which tell the Jesus story not included in the Bible.
Almost none are contemporaneous with Jesus. The accepted gospels existed in oral tradition before they were written down but the rest were ruled out for being either written nowhere near the time of Jesus or for being just silly. Have you read any of them? Many are unbelievably stupid. Read the Arabic Gospel of the infancy . It's painfully stupid.
Christians consider "The Bible" as the word of God.... Other "stuff" is not considered the gospel... The key word in religion is " believe"....Compare it the internet, there are reliable sites for info... and some that have content that may or may not be accurate...
