cats have scent glands in their paws and when they wipe or knead they are marking territory and letting people know they are there

Because no one told them that the claws are not there any more.....Also it is just the cat's nature to scratch....I mean why do you breath????

My sister-in-law has a declawed cat, and we call it "dusting" because she has big fluffy feet and looks like she's dusting the furniture! We don't believe in declawing, my cats aren't, but she got her's with it already done.

It's natural for a cat to have claws. The cat is not going to change it's natural behavior just because you've taken away it's beautiful claws.

My cats (still have claws) also scratch at the floor as if they are burying things. They try to cover up food or accidents. In the litterbox, they scratch at the sides even though that does not help them bury anything.
