    It's supposed to be gay = homosexual men, lesbian = homosexual women, but the media and people in general are lazy often and incorrectly use gay as a unisex term to refer the the LGBT community since it roles off the tongue easier then "gay and lesbian" or "LGBT's".

    Technically Lesbians are from the isle of Lesbos, but its a name that has been associated with gay women and seems to have stuck. Like the Amazons (female fighters) not coming from the Amazon. Perhaps a name will eventually be attributed to gay men, it just depends on society really.
