Feeling different and sad as if you don't belong is normal in modern societies. A woman from a Yanomamo-like tribe moved to NYC and reporters came out to ask her what it was like to go from the stone age to the big city. She said what struck her was the first time she looked out on a crowded city street and saw thousands of lonely people. This was a woman who had spent her entire life surrounded by the same 30 people without so much as a radio and seeing perhaps one stranger a year, but she had never experienced that kind of loneliness and it never occurred to her people could be lonely in a crowd.
The loss of intimacy and ease people have traded for the modern world is a trade most are still willing to make including this woman from a primitive tribe. However, there are things you can do to cultivate inner peace and intimacy without moving to the jungle.Like (1)
