Why do many think Ieviathans (sea-dragons) don't exist when they do?

One teenager in 1962 had experience with a Ieviathan that sadly killed his friends, I read about a 1962 teen boy who'd said his friends had been eaten by a creature while on a diving trip, a Ieviathan-looking thing, and he was the sole survivor. his name was edward mcIeary I think.
The boy said the leviathan had a dorsal fin on its back, but had the head of a turtle but elongated and had oval green eyes and long teeth. The Ieviathan killed 3 of his teenage friends.what would he get out of saying a leviathan ate his friends to hospital staff, newspapers (The newspaper told him they could not publish a monster story. So in the newspaper, he said that his friends developed cramps and drowned), and a researcher if Ievi's aren't reaI?

Actually any exceptionally large sea creature qualifies as a leviathian.

Leviathans look like giant snake-dragons with dorsal fins on their back.

This doesn't sound plausible. The leviathan was hungry enough to eat 3 kids but not 4? Only one swam away, not 2? All 3 were entirely eaten leaving no body parts? What is leviathan-looking anyway? Dragons (if they were real) have feet.
Was this in the Bermuda Triangle?

There was no real picture, there is no evidence that that really happened.
