The key word here is - debate. People incapable of providing logical rebuttals will resort to name calling. Eventually they get frustrated and block you. Now, I"m not averse to some good old name calling. I love bashing political candidates, but there is name calling and then there are personal attacks. I don't like personal attacks. Typically, I will leave people alone when I recognize a lost cause, but I will block people who are horribly rude, vulgar, or ... who send naked pictures.

There are a few people with whom I can discuss politics and things remain civil (usually moderates). But if someone calls my president, the First Lady or First Daughters "apes" or "monkeys", they're blocked. That indicates to me a bigger problem than differing politics. I've started blocking Trump supporters, too; Trump attracts bigots as well.

Agreed. Unfortunately there are too few people who can engage in rational discourse and give strongly held opinions, without over-stepping the mark. The dark side of many people comes out on-line. Politics is war but there should be an art to it.
