Why do people delete other peoples answers?

if someone does not agree with you is it ok to delete what they have to say? I think thats just pathetic and the people who do this need to grow up

Oddly enough, some of the most 'offensive' people on EP are the ones who have deleted my answers....

I dunno why, I'm usually just trying to be helpful.... I really did think sticking a fork in an electrical outlet would help that one guy understand women better.....

I'd delete an answer if I considered it hateful, that's about the only decent reason I can think of.

I've deleted answers to questions I've posted, if they're not intended as a genuine answer to the question then why shouldn't you delete them...

Main reason being obvious trolling, people making stupid pointless argumentative statements hoping that they will get a reaction out of people... Rather than feed the trolls it's far better to simply delete their post..

Not sure what others do but if any one leaves a smart mouth comment on any of my questions or stories the get deleted and probably blocked to. I encourage anyone to do the same. It is very offensive to be reading the answers to a question and see where some smart mouth piece of **** has left a rude answer.

It sucks and I agree that it's rude, but they have the option. Therefore, it doesn't matter how irritating it is.

Anyone that deletes my answer, and I become aware of it, never gets an answer from me again. I'm not going to waste the time.

and this comes as a surprise to whom?

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I never do that, and I don't know why. Makes no sense. If I ask a question I'm not looking for a particular answer, so every answer should be recieved =]

Sometimes the answer may be a challenge to them. Other times it may just be plain old offensive. (at times like those it's a coin toss on deleting).

cos they are sad and they need to grow up and take a bit of criticism. I have had that happen to me and all.

I don't know. Why ask the question if you aren't going to be open to all the answers? Kind of loses the point of asking a question in the first place.

Ppl expect certain answers, and if someone says something that they don't like they can't take it. I think its sad really :)

I agree that its petty to do that...Although I will say that one day I got the DUMBEST answer to a question imaginable...I should have left it just so the person would be humiliated, but I deleted it because it was so dmn dumb!! lol

Because they take the answers personal. Whether It is a answer that is mean, stupid, or crazy.

I had one guy put a totally pornographic comment on one of my stories, so I deleted it.
