The past may hold wonderful or terrible memories for them that they can't or don't want to overcome. They may be afraid to take the first step to break with the past because as luckypickle says, they may be defined by the past. If they break with the past, they break with their personal definition of who they are.
The past is more predictable than the future.
Looking for answer, where did things go wrong. and from there on move forward.
Well its a mix of what everyone said...some of us aren't ready to let go of our past and many of us keep it fresh in our memories in order to make sure that history doesn't repeat itself...the past makes who you are in the future to the extent that you let it...
Why not?....Don't you?
The Past holds many great Memories to us "Oldies!"
we are the sum of our experiences and our reactions to them. sounds corny, but it's pretty true.
The first part of healing from the past is forgiveness and a lot of people can't do that.
The past can have a huge hold on some and it stops them from moving forward.
I've often wondered the same thing myself. I think a lot of people who have been hurt repeatedly in the past are afraid the past will repeat itself and they will get hurt again and they also have some healing to do and they are living in the past to remind themselves of it so they don't get hurt in the future or something.
Because the future looks uncertain so they start remembering because there was good memories.
For some..the past defines them and they need to heal that part first. Some just are willing or ready to let go of what they used to be and finally move on. Give them time.
