People get married to prove to the world that they are truly committed to each other and nowadays that is the biggest crock ever!

People get married for many reasons. Some people need their greencards and get married for that. Some people need a reason to stay in america and get married for that. Some people want financial security and get married for that. Some people want to know that a person will correctly split their assets after they pass and get married for that!

Marriage is for the birds!

Why do people get married?
Funny you should ask... I've often wondered that myself!

I did it because though I was truly in love with my Sweetie, there were legal restrictions while being "single" - for instance, I could only get a single salary, which wasn't enough; besides, in those days (1970s) couples who were not married were looked at askance by the community, so it was harder to get cooperation (I was a schoolteacher); marriage was "expected" of one. Life was more difficult if not married to one's Beloved.

However, fortunately, marriage for us was only a formality, and not needed to make us stay together and "play it nice" with one another...

Evrybody is different. We live in a sick world where people marry 4 other reasons apart from love and commitment. They take those sacred vows and make a mockery of it.

1. Because they want to cement their commitment to each other.
2. To keep someone from being deported
3. To receive the benefits
4. It's what others want for them
5. Someone got knocked up

to complete yourself when you can finally join your soulmate as 1, and assure your children a place in a solid union. To combine to 1 solid mountain , instead of 2 rocks side by side.

Marraige is a joke to a lot of people these days.

My ex went off and got married 6 months ago, now this is his second marriage, and 4 kids later, it is already on the rocks.

Then i know others who a truly madly in love that are married.

without marriage your life isnt complete because marriage is a sign of settlement and maturity . and especially with the one you love is definetely what people are wishing for.

There are a lot of reasons here... but I feel it is because you wish to spend your days with the person you love and know the meaning of togetherness.

Good question. I'm not big on marriage myself and think it's a pretty old fashion custom that isn't that relevant in our society anymore. However I am married myself. I think there are a number of reasons people get married, a few for the right reasons and some for the wrong ones.

Some women (I'm sure some men too) want to get married literally for the wedding, they want the dress, the party, etc.

I believe quite a few people get married because they feel it's expected of them. This could be for various reasons like they got pregnant, they have been dating for a few years and feel they should, religious reasons, feeling of obligation to family, or I think a lot of times becuase society expects it. We have been force fed the idea all our lives that you should want to find someone, get married and start a family.

Finally the reason I hope most poeple get married is because they want to express their love for their partner and express their commitment to them.

I personally got married for a mixture of the two. We got married as I though it would help the immigration process. It was also an expression of our love. We were as far as I was concerned married anyway. People view the relationship different if your married and realise the extent of it. Before when I would tell people about my boyfriend they usually said nothing, as we could have been dating one week, a month, or a year. Now that I tell people about my husban they give me this shoked look and usually always say 'your married, you look too young to be married'.
