You have to quit asking why when it comes to people. Most of the time when some jerk says something inappropriate or heartless, there is no good reason for it. There is no good "why."
It's not just OCD is anything they do not understand and unfortunately there are a lot of really dumb people fumbling around out there. Here's the trick: When you find those rare people that are genuinely good, hang onto them. The trick is finding them and then keeping them around! And I hope that whomever said the awful thing to you that prompted your question grows a brain and heart.

It's not that we don't understand. Most people do understand that ya'll have an illness you can't control. We don't know what to do with that information. We want to help, but are unsure of what to do. Don't be so defensive.

I guess many people just have no idea what it is, I have a child with it, and people wonder why I just don't stop him form doing "his" stuff. I wonder if they think it is something I can just say to him...would you stop that please...He just can't help it, it is an involuntary action that he can't stop. I know he wishes he could.

People seem to have trouble understanding many types of mental illness. I don't know why, it's just like any other illness. There's always been a stigma attached to it. Seems pretty ridiculous. It's not like it's contagious.

They don't have OCD. My sister still doesn't fully understand what I go through even though I have explained it to her in detail
