Because depending upon the person, some things that others do just seem ridiculous, like leaving solid ground to go up in a plane and jump out, relying upon a glorified bed-sheet to get you safely back on the ground...where you were to begin with.
I have never had a body part shoved into a Cuisinart, but I am pretty sure I don't want to try it.

I don't know.
I can think of one person I knew well who did this.
My Mum was critical of just about every profession, and yet had none herself.
One day she admitted to me that the reason for her shyness was the fear that people would discover that she was stupid. Many of her mannerisms and habits were cultivated ways of trying to prevent people from seeing this about her... like listening to current affairs programs and repeating what leading thinkers said about topical issues. She believed that a sign of an intelligent person was critical thinking, and therefore, she should criticise in order to give the impression of being a thinker!
