Okay, I dont mean blind obedience, or agreeing with everything they do.But many people think that its because of the liberal mindset of tolerance, equality, and less rules. Others think that the Conservative mindset of rules, regulations, and hierarchy are the problem. Does anyone else think that there needs to be a middle ground?

People "used to" have a lot of strange ideas. Racism, sexism and the strange habit of giving the label of "authority" to anyone but themselves are a few examples. Alas, though it may offend your sense of nostalgia, the human race evolves. Any so-called authority that only earns the label "authority" because of its ability to point a gun at someone or otherwise inflict punishment deserves to be mocked.

Because kids are now taught from birth not to care what others think. Parents meant peer pressure and bully's and cliques. It was to impriove self-esteem, but it went beyond and includes police, teachers, and parents too. We have "improved" self-esteem to the point that people think only in terms of ME. No one else matters.

simple respect is earned and no one respects a thieving unfair bastard.

Best Answer

I have never had any respect for someone simply because they have some power over me. We all have to earn the respect of others. Lots of people with authority abuse that power and regularly confuse peoples fear of retaliation with respect.

Not a question of middle grounds but of respect and legitimacy. Always question authority but also respect the efforts of others. It's not easy.
