I am sorry but I just do not believe that you "don't get it." However you interpret "Satanism," I am sure you know that most people associate it with the worship of evil. This is the common, popular understanding of it. Frankly, I am inclined to think most people are right about this. However, if you think they are wrong, I'd suggest you be prepared to explain your side of it when you discuss it with most people (other than your fellow worshippers).
If it makes you feel better, I don't see you as particularly evil. (Most people who call themselves "Satanists" are young people in rebellion against their parents, and sometimes their society, who like to outrage the squares around them). If you don't see yourself as worshipping evil, I accept that. But most people won't and, if you want better reactions to your stated beliefs, you need to acknowledge that and be ready to deal with it.

It sounds like you need to think of a different way to introduce your beliefs. "I am an active Satanist" is clearly not giving people the message you are looking for. I think most people who have a non-mainstream religion have similar problems: "I am a witch" clearly is not always a helpful way to introduce being wiccan. "Pagan" and "Neo-Pagan" labels also trigger automatic reactions from people who do not really know what you mean when you say that word. Maybe you have a particular small subset you belong to with a name that everyone does not already associate with evil? Maybe you need to invent a name for your particular flavor of Satanism. Then people will ask with a more open mind "Oh, and what does that mean, what do they do?" instead of assuming what they have already heard is what you represent.

Better yet, if it bothers you how people feel about you being a satanist, why do you broadcast it into cyberspace? I think you are engaging in a cyber form of negative attention seeking behavior....kinda like "Trolling."

Well, it's like Christ said: "You worship what you do not know: WE worship what we do know". If you don't know that Satan is evil, then you don't know who or what it is you're worshiping.

Hallo Noa,
It's because of the word association with Satan and Satanist to most people; they project a certain set of images. It would be interesting to have a group here where people could explain their various beliefs (or non beliefs), and one rule would be let everyone speak and discuss in a rational manner. However, that would be too much to ask for.

"Satan" always instantly has negative implications, no matter what. I know full well what Satanism is, but sincerely, I really do think it was poorly named for this exact reason.

I know I would never be able to change your mind..all I can say is I hope that you will be ok. no matter what people say,in the end its your decision to make. GOD wont ever force you to worship Him. It your choice, good luck with that. Dont let this world bring you down,be strong and happy. My life isnt all peaches and cream,my face is scared by acne,im poor but im christian and happy anyway and that doesnt mean I condemn you for your beliefs. Im just gonna show u love and what my GOD truly is,love and true peace, not temporary peace. No one said it would be easy either. I hope you find what you seek...

I'm sure you've already heard plenty about my beliefs, Noa; however, I'll point out that I never considered you to be an "evil" person when I found out you were a satanist...which was quite early in our friendship :) From my way of thinking, anything that a person puts between themselves and God is evil. For instance, if I decided to start worshipping my computer it would be just as wrong as if I was a satanist. Worshipping Satan is the most outright, blatant way to disregard God/Jesus and try to distance yourself from him...I think that's usually why Christians freak out when they discover someone is a satanist; it isn't actually that a satanist is any more evil than another person, it just points out their disdain for God...which can be hard to understand and scary for those of us who consider Him to be the most important force in our lives.

I like all those answers of people that call "Satan" or Lucifer the pure evil again... hmhm.
Well, the simple answer is, that people know Satan from the bible. Fact is, there he's the bad one, and the somewhat wonderful almighty God is the good one.
They see every satanist as worshipping Satan cause he's taking over the world or something. They just have that ridiculous book called bible in their head and don't notice that their great God is the one true liar.
Wasn't that clear in your head somehow -you got to enough stupid Christians before, I think?

Because simply the most people compare satan to evil because of the biblical term and dont take time to try to understand and see it from a actual satanist view. People are to quick to judge on what they first see or hear.

Satan is an old word that comes from latin and greek, meaning 'accuser'. It's been left that way in the bible to make people fear a fictional enemy. The only enemy is our own greed actually. There's no actual devil with pitched fork and horns. People just want an enemy to blame their faults on. Satanism is man-made religion where you worship bad qualities, so it isn't positive. All religions come from ancient Egypt and Sumer etc. even Christianity and Islam.

Do you believe in Satan? You quoted the Satanic bible, and I reckon most followers of that type of Satanism don't believe in a literal devil. I don't believe in good or evil anyway, so I ain't calling ya evil lol. However, the word 'Satanist' explains it all. Most people think of the wrong definition. You're gonna have to keep your belief to yourself, or try to explain it clearly to others.

Satan is pure evil. He is the father of lies-he is deceiving you into worshiping him. It may look like he is in control of the world right now, and yes, he has a lot of control, but that is only because God is allowing it so that all the people who are meant to be saved will be saved, but in the end, Satan will be destroyed and thrown into the Lake of Fire to burn forever and ever. And everyone who worships Satan will be thrown in there as well. So why would you want to worship Satan? God is good, and Jesus died for us so that we don't have to have the wrath of God on us and go to Hell. Jesus loves you and it does not matter that you worship Satan now-you can still come to Jesus and be saved, and He will forgive every sin and God will not count them against you when you die.
