Because a serious question only needs one serious answer...and the rest is good for a laugh, which is also needed when you are being serious.

I agree wholeheartedly but I feel bad for some of the people who are obviously in a lot of emotional pain and come here looking for genuine advice or understanding. Most of my questions and answers are jokey but when I see people considering suicide or suffering from some kind of addiction that is ruining their life I wish that they could be connected with someone who won't make light of their situation.

True... but when I see the same people contemplating suicide or self harming daily, you have to wonder at least a little bit if they aren't trolls. I don't add to the abuse... if I am feeling good and I want to answer I do...otherwise I move on to the next question. However, there have been points in my life when I just didn't want to feel good...and there was a website where I would post stuff, even though I knew I would just get flamed for it... mostly I did it when I got tired of beating myself up. And even in those times... having one "real" person on a website, if there is such a thing, was enough. So, keep being part of the solution...is the best solution. Even if the problem posted is fake, if the solution you propose is real... it might reach a real person!

It doesn't make much sense to have question categories if all the questions go to the same place. They need to have an "I'm looking for attention" category.

Because they want a serious answer. I don't know that a separate forum would help. Jokesters would still respond. I understand what you're saying though. :)

You are probably more bothered by the flippant answers than the folks who asked the question. I often feel bad for them too but I know it's projection.

I think the Q&A started out as a serious forum but people post stupid answers and we are all used to it. You will get the smart answers and then you just laugh or ignore the other ones. It's not a big deal.
