Because believing would make it necessary for one to be accountable to a higher law than oneself.

God was used as nothing short of an abusive mental instrument against me and my classmates when I was a young boy. I don't turn against God I just connect to him in my own way. "Come as you are"...isn't that what they say?

Besides I have the same philosiphy towards Jesus as I do Edward from Twilight. I like them and their works a whole lot. I'm just not very impressed with their fan club other than to be amazed by what stupid people can do in large masses.

I think i have already gone into this...........my problem is that religion is meant to be about forgiveness, love, salvation or so we are told......yet i cannot think of one thing that has caused more death and suffering down through the ages.......apart from malaria or the plague......and they were meant to be created by "god" as well........

A study of believers indicated whenever life throws lemons at them they blame God. Personally I'd rather place blame where it belongs and can do some productive good rather than wasting time cussing some imaginary gremlin or whatever. I don't reject the idea there might be a God, but I also see no compelling reason to adopt a belief in God either.

Because everything I know about him is what fellow humans have written. And mankind doesn't have a good track record for telling the truth. And he should know that and come on TV or on the Radio or just scream from the sky "hey I'm real". If I told you that you were adopted and that I was your real Dad would you believe me? Of course not, why not? Cuz the world is full of manipulators. You would want to see some kind of proof ..anything.

There are people who looked to the sky and our genetic code and the perfection in balance of scientific principles and based on what they discovered, they believed in a creator. They didn't need a TV or someone to lie to them. They are surrounded by proof.

Because most people believe that its Gods fault why th world is such a mess. But its not Gods fault its peoples fault. God has nothing to do with world crisis, they say, but He can help most people who wants to be saved.

We believe when we don't know. Once known, there is no need for belief.

For long I don't believe in God.

no such thing. created by humans to explain the unexplained. same reason why people once believed in witchcraft, mythology, etc. Funny how people once believed you could sail off the Earth, the Sun revolved around the Earth, the sky could fall on you, etc. It's an idea that will eventually be put to rest after X amount of lives are taken :( Just treat others the way you would want to be treated.

People look at the state of the world and they think, "If there was a God why would he let this happen?" So it makes sense not to believe in him. Yet others will say God will be there when you really need Him/Her but, She/He like a parent, will let you go to make your own mistakes so that you can learn to be an adult and stand on your own two feet.

Any god(ess) is "true" only to its own believers, but such deities cannot be proven to exist or not.

To answer the original question directly, they don't believe because they choose not to believe - perhaps they have no personal need for this sort of emotional crutch, whether it is the one imagined by Middle Eastern Bronze-Age tribal leaders (the Judaeo-Christian-Muslim god) or any other.

Just be grateful for living in a country that will not murder you by legal decree for either believing, not believing or changing your beliefs from those approved by the State.

Because too many people look at what man does and then judge God for their wrong doing. God is blamed for everything...even though we have free will....everyone is mad at God for not giving them freebies

Because where is he when you need him......if I ask for a car it's ok that he doesnt answer but if a mother asks him to save her dying child and there is no answer that's so uncool. I want to believe but hearing about a baby being chewed apart by a dog alone in a room makes it impossible. I mean the child was alone if he wants to be anonymous he could have saved the child and no one would have seen him.
And why didn't he just give Hitler a heart attack or a stray bullet or a lightning strike as soon as he was put into a position where he had the power to do what he did.

I'm sure many would love to be reassured by that belief. I don't think a lack of belief is really a rejection. To reject something you have to know it on some level. People who have felt god believe. You see what I'm saying? It's like anything else that you've never seem personally you judge your opinion based on the source for the information. Given the incredibly bad behavior of many religions and their leadership in history, it's perfectly logical for people to conclude that there is nothing to what they profess.

Belief in God isn't only as defined by religions. One can look through a telescope and see the wonders of the universe or look through a microscope and see the same incredible level of complexity and perfection and be driven to believe in a creator.

I never said that it was. I don't believe religions have much to do with god personally. I'm simply explaining one of the main reasons many conclude that god isn't real.

I have a saying that is similar. Truth is what the person firmly believes in their mind and heart. We've seen this time and time again; once a person sets their mind to something, it doesn't matter how much you try to convince them otherwise they will die believing what they wish.
