i started with a guy i used to spend all my time with. i quit a while ago though. it's senseless.

well..Back in the 70's kids did it because it was the cool thing to do..if you didn't smoke you weren't cool. I know some of my friends did it because they mimic their parents who said it helps them...in my opinion those were poor choices of words. I did due to peer pressure. And if people put the time to smoke less..then I dont think they would be addicted. I smoke every once in a awhile but only 2 cigarettes a month

I quit now. However, there was a time I was really insecure. I was 13. A popular high school boy told me how sexy it was when girls smoked cigs. He bought me a pack. We started becoming friends and all his friends smoked so I joined in. I began smoking a pack a day until I was 19. Then I started to get so grossed out by cigs that I quit.

It staves off hunger and stress. If you grow up in a situation where those are common, cigarettes look like an appealing option. That's why more teens of low socioeconomic status are prone to become smokers.
They also might smoke because they crave approval or companionship and smoking with others makes them a part of some sort of social group. They may do it to be rebellious because they know it is taboo. They may also just be curious to try it.Like (1)
