Why do people think tattoos are trashy?

They ARE trashy, look who wears them, gang members , convicts, dopers, trailer trash. The human body can not be improved on by mutilating it. Injecting ink under your skin is morbid and gross self mutilation so of course it's ugly.

I have no idea, I'm planning my first tattoo - I'm either going for a pegasus on my left shoulder, or paw prints on my left wrist. I personally love tattoos.

It's an old fashioned stigma born from, and carried on by, more conservative folk

I don't think they are trashy if they are tasteful, but I have seen some people that have them all over, that is when it starts looking gross

i've nothing against it yet i don't have any..
just one thing - you can't erase it like you never had it when you get tired of it (also at a time while you're saying "what was i thinking?")

I don't know, i think it's matter of taste rather than not liking tattoos in general. There are some unique tattoos i like, and there are lots of sexy ones, meaningful ones.

Depends. Some look really good. Some look awful. I very much dislike the ones that cover people

First, like all things, it is a personal preference. Secondly... I believe that the negative image some perceive has far more to do with generation and the time and place your were raised in. I used to dislike tatoos on women.. which stemmed from the ideas projected upon me in a much earlier time.. both of my daughters have tatoos.. I no longer find them distastful and understand it is their, and their generations way of expressing their artistic self.

Hmm I have a music note smack dab in the back of my neck...it was about expression for me..I love music and I don't care how old I get I'm pretty sure that won't change so if I'm an old hag with a music note on her neck I'm alright with that. I'll be a badass grandma =]

joedeghetto: its a fad even though many cultures have used tattoos for CENTURIES to display who they are and where they come from? thats a hell of a long time for a 'fad'

tattoos show who you are & where youve been (granted for some people who they are is a stupid person who probably regrets a lot of other things besides the tattoo & what they are reminded of by it)

its just that our culture has adopted the practice of tattooing more recently than others

ask yourself that question when you are about 60 and the tattoo is faded and sagging off of your flesh

Not I. Tattoos are a form of expression and I love them on an Artisic level. They are also very sexy.

Generalising a bit here, I dont think ALL people think they are trashy. I certainly dont - They look pretty funky but I wouldnt want one myself.
I dont really get why people get ones which dont really mean anything though. I mean, theres nothing wrong with liking a design and body work is nice and all that, but sometimes people just seem to put them on for the hell of it. -And sometimes the designs are pretty damn awful too (only a personal oppinion).
I think sometimes though people dont have much respect for people who have tattooes, which is something I dont entirely understand.

A father paints a grand masterpiece for his child. Knowing the child cannot create such a piece of work on their own, but he still wishes for the child to posses such a creation. Upon recieving it, the child, feeling they know better, proceed to take a permanent marker, draw all over the painting, and cut holes into it, to hang their do-das.

Older traditional tats were more blurry and not quite so pretty as the ones given with the present tecnology... I personally wont get one I cant cover up if I want to.... I have 4 on my back and eyeliner.... The guns used now are way better than the ones used to color the old faded blurry tats...
