Why do people think that just b/c you have a baby you have to coo over every baby ever born?

im not interested in kids that arent my own... i dont wanna chase people around a store just to tell them they have a cute baby that shit is annoying... my grandmother-in-law (i guess is what you'd call her) gets all offended when i dont wanna lean over someone elses baby with her & make cooing noises & tell them theyre cute & ask their parents a million questions about their kid... she says i should be interested in other peoples babies b/c i have one... does it make me weird b/c im not?

Your grandmother-in-law probably has a different attitude regarding the people around her because she comes from a social generation. Perhaps a disinterest in connecting with others is seen as rude in her eyes. God knows we as a people are as inapproachable as ever.

One baby is just like another. Just like one puppy is just like another. I don't see why one is more special than the next... unless it is one that matters to you.

I coo'ed to all of my babies it stimulated the babies and they coo'ed back at an early age, I also would gently stroke their cheeks from the lips back to encourage them to smile and I made clicking sounds with my tongue. It was more of a way to stimulate the baby and I did it to other parents knowing that some of them would pick up the good habits. To each their own I wouldn't worry about what other people think.

You don't have to coo- it's purely a personal reaction. I love babies and kids in general - mine are grown. But I can't really think of a time when I actually took the intiative to coo someone elses child without an invitation. Tell the Gma in law that you appreciate her wanting to share this desire with you but it just doesn't feel right to you. If she can't accept that I guess you just have to ignore it. Good luck!
