Because it is a fun and nice thing to do, give gifts to and be with the people you love. Why should some superstition be a prerequisite for that? It isn't even like Christians invented Christmas, they just highjacked it from the Pagans.
Yup, love existed before Christ, and it exists without religions.
Because it was originally a pagan holiday, the church adapted a few centuries after Jesus' death to entice more people to convert. And because who doesn't like getting gifts and stuffing themselves silly with fattening food!!!
It is a day off of work with pay. I think everyone celebrates those days:D
No clue why they would celebrate christmas! The reason of having christmas is that is the day mary gave birth to jesus christ at the inn, when you go to all the christmas programs for children in the month of december, the children are acting out parts of the bible, which is mary giving birth to jesus "christ" therefore it is celebrating jesus christ birthday, just like every year when all of us celebrate OUR birthdays and have birthday bashes!!!!!!! except jesus christ was Gods chosen (special) one , mary's child so now every year WE the people in modern day society celebrate (Jesus Christ Birthday) with a HUGE bash called CHRISTMAS derived from the word CHRIST(Born in december/winter soltice) you can find these basic facts out in the bible, if you enjoy reading the bible is of great and really interesting historical facts in there about how things use to be and how things are still to be, and people would also find there was alot less violence and crime when "old ways" were in effect. Christmas is celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, is you don not believe this child was born, then you should not celebrate any of the connections regarding Jesus, or God he was Gods chosen son.
people have changed the true meaning of christmas because they don't want to accept the fact that it was made to celebrate the birth of jesus christ. so therefore, they created Santa Claus so they celebrate it and put it as a meaning of this old man on a sleigh with rein-deers, carrying gifts.
I don't believe in Santa either.
It means Christ's Mass and the evergreen tree or christmas tree represents Christ being the TREE of Life.
Hope that helps.
Because it's a time for togetherness. Why does what you believe have to define the love and thankfulness for being with your friends and family? I think tradition has a lot to do with also.
It's a good excuse for family to get together, shares gifts, etc. Just kind of a feel-good time (if you're lucky and care about your family). And Santa Bear always brings nice gifts to the house.
Bringing the tree in represented the return of green :)
because it's a friendly atmosphere, the decorations, the festivities and the food.
Christmas is no longer Christain. The Jolly Fat Man, Father Christmas has nothing to do with Christ. The winter solstice has been celebrated by every culture since the first recording of time. The shortest day of the sun cycle, the turning of the seasons from darkness to light.
Christains just happen to have the name. But Saturnalia, Kwanza, Yule, Bodhi Day, Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Day of the Return of the Wandering Goddess, Id al-Adha, Soyal, Zartusht-no-diso, Krismas, Omisoka, Shabe-Yalda and many others happen at the same time worldwide. We just call it Christmas because we use the English language and Christianity is our major religion.
But currently Christmas has little to do with Christ.
I used to ask some Jewish friends that question and they said it was for the family togetherness with the tree and the decorations and festivities. They also lit their menorah candles and celebrated Hanukkah.
They don't celebrate Christmas, they enjoy togetherness, it's a social festival.
Because that's the name of it, but the meaning is not the same.
Good question alot of stupid JW's wonder the whole thing. Because it is a day which is nationaly recognized people have the day off and have family reunions. Dont you wanna introduce your date to your family. On my mother's side we have about 60 people at the party. I don't know one single person who bows down to a Christmas tree and I know atheists who have trees :)
