Why do some mothers hurt the children they don't understand?

Why would a woman (who adopted a child for the purpose of raising it with the love and care they couldn't receive with the birthparents) hurt her child and pretend not to know? Pretend not to have done it at all? It's not right. Why? Someone tell me...

Maybe cos she doesn't understand the kid, or she's just a vindictive *****

Perhaps the child swallowed her quarters.

Not all mothers are good mothers...maybe 60 % are..the others should not be allowed in 100 ft of children

Some human beings are so blind and selfish that they just aren't aware of themselves or the harm that they inflict on others.

By pretending not to know she hurt her child, she does not have to take responsibility for it, or take action to correct it. In other words, she doesn't have to face herself, and the possiblility of having to admit she may not be a good mother, which of course means she is not a good person (to her way of thinking).

Do not mistake her shortcomings with your worth. Your worth is not dependant upon her, or anything else in this world.

My own mother is the worst of mothers, and even at her advanced age, still manages to hurt and manipulate people on a daily basis. If you think you have a story that beats any of mine, I could top you in my sleep.

I was nearly 40 before I realized that I was a good loving person, and that I didn't need to buy into my mothers issues anymore. I am now 58 and just begining to understand why she does the things she does.

Without knowing anything about the situation, it's entirely possible that she's not pretending not to know that she's hurt you. It's possible that she really doesn't know because she doesn't understand you. Adopted kids are chosen, she didn't just end up with you at random so that counts for something.

Of course, it's possible that she has her own demons that she's dealing with and doesn't know how to be what you need her to be.

It is fortunate that you are mature enough to ask questions. If she failed to win your heart with true love; now you should love ardently to win her heart.
