I'm online a lot a couple of reasons:

-Because of my ADHD. I love to learn new subjects and the internet is a wealth of information. Learning stimulates my mind, and my ADHD brain loves immediate stimulation. But it comes at a price, since my brain is also very impulsive and I can easily spend a whole day in front of the computer.

-Ever since my teenage years, the internet has been an escape from my life of isolation and worries. As the question puts it, the internet disengages my life.

-If you have nothing else better to do, its a great time waster.

I sit here to unwind from real life...

sametimes i am here in the lull times at work some times work is so busy that i need to unwind when i get back home, doing shift work means some times i do not see friends for weeks at a time, this place is a good place to do that for de-stressing...LOL.

At first, it was an escape from RL. Now, it's because I have good friends here.

    I agree with bobthebiker,

it is a way to unwind from the rw,

I still call it real life.. some of us have different ways of expressing ourselves and don't crave to have people constantly around us.. so this is a good way to have peace and still converse with people.. from a distance.

Real life is full of judgements based on looks. Online, I can pretend that the way I look doesn't matter. That's my reason anyway. : (

Drew, ...Good Morning, I ask myself that every day!

Maybe it's the fascination of speaking to someone the other side of the globe and they are sitting where you are!

    ....in front of "THE SCREEN!"

i have never really liked the internet much... seems like there is more drama and fake people here then in real life. i do not like talking to a number, i want to see and talk to people for them, not some fake *** name or number. anything you learn online has already been in a book somewhere and can be read as such. i make a limit to how much time i can use the internet, just so i can be who i am in life, so many people have failed thier familys because of this nonscence and no one is going to limit it for you.

I can admit to being here for hours, but not days at a time. If I feel I'm getting too distracted from real life concerns, I take a EP and computer break for awhile.

Usually, I find it's a break from the stress and worry of real life.
