Why do some people think just because someone goes to church they are a good person?

They put too much faith into religious propiganda. Chances are they are brain washed themselves.

I don't think that. At all. I know for a fact I've met douche-bags in church who had no respect for themselves or their religion.

You'll find that most people here are going to tell you that they don't think that. And maybe it's true.
I think you're referring those few that do, and in that case the answer would be:

I do not believe in church. I am a christian but I don't wear it on my sleeve. It is a personal choice. The Jerry Swaggart's and Jim Baker's of the world turned me against organized religion.

have always been the people who claim they are sooo religious and will preach to you about how bad you are. That is generally all the proof i need to consider you a criminal. Just my own experiences. There are priest in my family. I haven't seen this in them. I do keep my distance in that part of their lives however.

Actually, most of my acquaintances from high school are regular church-goers, and some of them couldn't be less Christ-like if they tried. They see a single thing they don't like about a person and automatically label them a "sinner," and snub them. Nice. Real nice.

Plus they pretend to be friendly, and agree to get together sometime, and you never hear from them again. They're only good for lip-service. They never follow through.

Because they're blind to the fact that regardless of who goes to church, people are still the same **** ups they are when they're outside of church...

Church is meant to be a place to make people come together and learn on their own personal path to becoming the best of who they can be...unfortunatly that's hardly ever the case. Religion is a sticky subject but, perhaps this person either believes that if you don't attend church you are going to hell or they just cannot see why anyone wouldn't want to go to church because they enjoy it so much themselves.

It's the same kind of thinking that just because a person makes lots of money and drives an expensive car that someone would say "they have to be a good person for all this good fortune to come to them."

Kinda the same BS.

In your eyes are they a BAD person from the get go, I'd say yes but there are those who wouldn't think so.
