Why do some people think that atheists have no morals?

Why do some people pick their nose? Why is it imoral to go to church one day and rip the world off the next day all in the name of business as long as you visit the little confesion box in between?

It isn't necsarrily that atheist have no morals, the question is what do you base the morals on. We have in most parts of the world a sociatial morality, but it is not really true everywhere. So how do you decide that certain things are moral or immoral.
Examples:
Slavery; considered moral and a right for thousands of years, someone decided to change the rules one place and it spread. But it is still practiced in some parts of the world, where they still think it is moral to do so.
Taking things that are not yours; I do not call it stealing here because many people groups do not consider stealing if the item is not in the abode of someone it is open to anyone to take it. But in most of the world we do not do this. Is it moral for them but not for us?
Sex; this is a huge one. Age-what is age of consent? Some cultures start as low as 9-11yrs old, most start at about 13yrs or after the first menstration for girls, or when a young boy has hair and testicals and passes a rite of passage. Homosexuality-condemed by many cultures for thousands of years is just now do to political pressure becoming accepted. But most cultures in the world will not tolerate it for being immoral. But because they disagree with western viewpoint are they less or more moral.

Morality is a fickle thing and if you believe in nothing there is nothing to guide how you should be, it is totally up to you. Each of you have chosen what you deemed to be moral, based on perceptions and emotions. You can simply pick and choose and change your morality at a moments notice. I am not saying this a good or bad thing, just trying to answer the question the best I can and explain maybe a little.

Because of the ridiculous religious concept that anyone who doesn't believe in their God doesn't have morals, and that humans can't create morals on their own, independent of religion.

Because the rest of the world are narrow minded people.
And just like judging us

Because they believe that morals can't exist without a divine concept. If there isn't a God, if there isn't a Satan, how could there be goos and evil. In their eyes, if there wasn't either, nothing would matter, hence no morals.

That's easy, their bigots.

Because they don't believe in anything, so some people think they have no sense of right and wrong. I'm atheist, I think there's nothing up there but some clouds and a blue sky, and nothing beneath me except some lava leading to the center of the earth. And still, I keep my morals and values.

These are very simple, and little, people. They think that if you don't have a religion, you must also not have any of the values that religion professes. Little do they realize that that's sometimes a good thing.

Because they're stupid.

The assumption some people have that you can't do the right thing, or even good things for others, if you don't believe in God.

I don't think morals have anything to do with ones religion - I mean that deep seated sense of what is right and what is wrong.

Atheists and Christians may consider different things moral - to a Christian belief in Jesus Christ may be "moral" while to an Athiest - the endoctination of a child with belief in Jesus Christ may be the greatest sin.

They have, but human standards cannot be taken as divine standards.
The moral of the egg is different from the moral of the chicken.
The moral of the pot is different from the moral of the potter.
How a believer dare claim that he is equal to his Master in knowledge, virtue and power. How dare the Master say anything against God. Now, is it wise to follow an atheist or to follow the Master of our wise and independent choice!
