I wear pantyhose and I agree about all the negative comments. Here is some advice. Buy only nice hose, never drug store. Apply lotion to legs (and feet/toes) beforehand. This will avoid snags as well as HOLD them up perfectly in place... All day long and I guarantee it! I used to search high and low at US and European styles to find a pair that didn't sag and was still comfortable. One day I shaved then applied Vaseline Intense Repairing lotion and sure as shooting, my pantyhose stayed perfectly in place all dy and that evening. Also made for a more sensational feeling. Try it before you judge. Also another tip.. European pantyhose (referred to as tights in Europe) are far superior to US pantyhose! They ship internationally from many of the online shops. Want the best try a pair of Wolford Fatal Seamless... Like nothing in America.

CJ, here's what you do. It's August, so be sure to do this soon on a hot, steamy Midwestern afternoon. Be sure you're running late and need to be somewhere important. Appearance counts, so you HAVE to wear hose. Sit down and start the procedure: roll the first leg down, then the other, and catch your fingernail in them causing a snag and a runner just as you're ready to slide them up. Go grab pair two and start all over. This time, you get them all the way up and poke a hole in the top with your thumb just as you get them all the way up to your butt. Go for pair three. (Your now at about $15.) You're already 5 minutes late. Success. You walk to your appointment, in the steamy heat with the nylons clinging to your legs and rubbing on your thighs and the waistline is cutting into you. I could go on, but you get the idea.

Some of the posts here gave me a chuckle as these are the very same complaints I hear from my pantyhose-hating coworkers. It's interesting to see how I don't seem to experience these problems despite wearing pantyhose every day to work. Strange, no?

I liken the distinction to the difference between cheap wool and fine cashmere wool. Cheap wool just doesn't feel good, period. Cashmere, on the other hand, is exquisite; you never want to take it off. Yet, both are wool.

If my only impression of wool were the cheap, itchy stuff, of course I'd hate it; if my experience were limited to the itchy stuff in too small a size, my disdain would be compounded. Building upon this wool-hating mindset, I could then conjure up a whole laundry list of things that are bad about all things wool, and carry on about how evil wool is. However, this viewpoint would be very narrow-minded, as anyone who has ever worn cashmere wool knows, not all wool garments are created equal.

Likewise, I do not limit myself to the bargain basement pantyhose. And, perhaps more importantly, I am honest with myself when it comes to sizing. My pantyhose never itch. And, they never sag to the extent that other women seem to experience--seriously, with some of the exaggerated claims I hear from my coworkers, you'd think that their pantyhose briefs are eternally sagging down to their knees or bunching up at the ankles like slouching socks.

And binding? How does that sensation differ from any other form of shapewear? If a woman isn't predisposed to wearing shapewear to begin with, it baffles me as to why she would choose to wear control top pantyhose when the need arises; control top pantyhose bind; sheer to waist much less so. Hipster and seamless styles do not bind at all.

cjpsf5: I realize you posted this quite some time ago, but I have only recently joined Experience Project. I just wanted you to know that there are women out there that actually do love to wear pantyhose. :)

Such a strange thread. I honestly think hose are one of the best things about being a woman, but you have to buy nice hose. I wear hose or tights almost everyday, but I also wear skirts almost everyday too, and I am too pale to not wear hose =P
Honestly, if it wasn't for the attention from men, hose, and my purse... i think being a woman would be pretty horrible.

Almost makes me wish I was a woman so that I could enjoy pantyhose without people looking at me funny. Sounds fun, especially listening to the fun you have wearing a nice pair of hose.

I could try to tell you .... but seriously .... this is something you just have to try for yourself.

Do this experiement on a hot summer day - wear them all day with a skirt so you can feel how your thighs feel when you walk in them in the hot, hot sun while sweating - and make sure you drink a lot so that you have to go to the bathroom a lot .... and you need to pull them down like women do and pull them back up with each bathroom experience to fully appreciate it. Oh, and make sure there are a lot of obstacles with sharp corners around where you work so that you have a great chance of snagging them every time you walk from point A to point B - so, carry at least one extra pair with you in case you have to change them. Make sure you wear heels with pointed toes while you're at it. Cause you just have to feel your toes at the end of the day after they've been scrunched up in those shoes and the hose have been tight against the tip of your toes.

Now .... it's the end of the day .... take those damned pantyhose off .... NOW .... feel how great that feels?
    Ahhhhh......

But, if you were a woman, you'd just have to get up and do it all again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next...... get it now?

So, why do we do it? Hell .... just LOOK how great it makes our legs look! ~ lol ~

I'll give it a try, I honestly don't think that it could be that bad, but I will be sure to try. Pantyhose does make a woman's legs look amazing, FYI

because it's really annoying to put them on and unless you are super skinny they will roll down and bunch up and be uncomfortable. then again if you're super skinny you don't NEED to wear pantyhose.

I dont hate them .I do wear black pantyhose with pumps in the winter. I think my legs look pretty good, I keep them tanned and smooth. I wear slides and mules most of the year and its much easier to walk without pantyhose

Everyone is different and I can understand why some women hate them. It's that special confining feeling that irritates women who hate them and makes them say their legs feel like saucages in pantyhose, they feel like they're restricted somehow when wearing pantyhose. However, it's this same feeling that's enjoyed by people who wear pantyhose (also myself) but in our case, we perceive this sensation as a gentle caress and hugging around our legs, that after a while becomes sensational!

Some people also say they take too long to put on or snag easily. Believe me, putting on my hose only takes 2-3 minutes and I'm good to go! And if you take a close look, you will realize pantyhose can be damaged pretty easily so all you have to do is handle it carefully. Again, it only takes practice! And not all pantyhose are the same, there is a huge difference between poor quality and high quality pantyhose!

I think BizSuitStacy hit the nail on the head.

Far too many women have tortured themselves with cheap pantyhose. The thought is, why spend a lot of money when the pantyhose won't last anyway? They're worn one or two times, then get a run and become worthless. Well, what they fail to recognize is that if they spend a little more and get quality pantyhose, not only will they last longer, they'll feel much better. My girlfriend buys Donna Karan hosiery almost exclusively. She buys it on-line and gets really good deals. She told me the longest lasting pair of pantyhose survived something like two dozen wearings before getting a hole, and even then she was able to get a few more wearings out of them after using some nail polish to repair the hole.

She actually (blush) had me wear a pair for a Halloween costume. Shaved my legs and all. It was a very unusual sensation for me, yet, somehow very nice. It was fun to do once... as a guy. But if I were female, I'd probably wear pantyhose fairly often. Definitely tights more, though. Tights seem to be made of more comfortable materials and they certainly outlast pantyhose.

The biggest complaints I hear is they are uncomfortable - i.e. hot or binding - they are too fragile, they sag, bag and roll down your waist, and they cost too much.

Personally, I love wearing pantyhose. I think many of the complaints have to do with pantyhose that don't fit well, or are of cheaper quality. I agree that the waistband on cheap pantyhose can roll easily, or simply be uncomfortable. But I've worn better quality hosiery with nice waist bands that feel great, don't bind and don't roll down - even on my skinny hips. Cheap hose are often cheap looking - as in it looks like you put on sausage casings. Finding something sheer in a color that either matches your skin tone well, or goes with the outfit you are wearing will prevent that sausage look. I've never understood pantyhose being so hot. I had this conversation with a friend of mine, that happens to be female. She is in the "pantyhose are too hot" camp. She and I are approximately the same height, so I loaned her a pair of mine and asked her to try them on. These were sheer to waist, 15 denier pantyhose, with a nice waist band. And she agreed that these really were more comfortable. With respect to cost - yes, the better pantyhose do cost more. So if you think that the $2.99 drug store pantyhose are expensive, then it's going to difficult to convince your to spend more. I do find that better pantyhose tend to last longer if handled properly.

They're uncomfortable, they don't stay up and you constantly have to tug them back into place, they get runs after 1 or 2 wears and cost a lot to keep buying new ones all the time.

They're ugly just by themselves, and they get caught on things, and they can sometimes roll down... All good reasons to hate them, really! :)

Stockings feel nicer to wear, but they're not all that practical either. More of a special occasion thing. :)

I cant understand the supposed hatred of tights and pantyhose expressed by some women-yes fashion experts and models extol the virtues of bare legs, but few of us have the legs or the time to have perfect bare legs. Also I think a lot of women delude themselves into thinking they look great in bare legs when in reality they look tacky and unfeminine. I wear tights because they make my legs look nicer and more feminine. I wear tights because it is the respectable thing to do. I wear tights because I grew up in tights, at school, ballet etc. I wear tights because women in the 1960's found them liberating and they replaced stockings, garter belts which were restrictive and uncomfortable..if women want to return to this sort of attire..God help us. tights/pantyhose are comfortable, practical and feminine.

There are several reasons why from experience. Some are fashion lemmings and would follow any trend over the cliff. Others see them as a sign of male oppression because men like the way they look and that is objectifying to insecure women. Others have never worn quality, well fitting, ultra sheer hosiery and think all pantyhose is like the crap you buy in drug stores or supermarkets. Some women just don't give a hoot about how they look or whether they are attractive to the rest of the world. Just like many men, some are just plain lazy and don't give a ****.

For me, they never fit right. It's hard to put on, and then you run out of material and the crotch is a few inches too low.
