Why do some women have such a 'If men can do it, then so can we' mentality?

I think that what's good for the goose is good for the gander (in general) and vice-versa. If a man can have casual sex if he so chooses and people don't judge him for it, then a woman should be able to do the same. I don't have a problem with what other people do in their bedrooms, or others' bedrooms. ;)

I recognize, though, that whether we like to admit it, we have had gender roles in place in society for a very long time. In man's timeline, it really is only recently that society has accepted that not all women want to be the little mother and housewife. It takes a long time for millennia-held beliefs to totally die out. ;)

But no one likes to be told "You can't," and most people are inclined to get riled up and say "Oh hell yes, I can!" if you do tell them they can't. I imagine that the women who do have that attitude have, at some point or another, been criticized for their choices and are therefore automatically on the defensive, as it were.

I will just wrap this up with one final thought: I wish that more people could and did understand that we don't all share all the exact same morals and values, and that we could all learn to judge a person based on whether they are overall a good apple or a bad, not whether they are a promiscuous apple or a chaste one. ;)

It's same mentality men have of 'If another man can do it, so can I.' Personally I think it's better not to frame your ambitions in the context of an inferiority complex and just say "I WANNA DO EET!" If it's worth doing, what does it matter who else is there?

Why shouldn't we? I know I just answered your question with a question, but apart from a few things (like growing a beard) women can do almost anything they like.

If a woman wants to have casual sex, she should be able to without being considered "trampy" or any other euphemism you wish to use. For me, casual sex isn't something I am interested in. But I wouldn't bash a woman who did enjoy it. There's no need for a woman to repress her sexuality, whatever it may be, just because it has never been in the NORM to do so until recently as it has been for men, for centuries

I think it's a quest for at least some sense of equality...and to adjust some archaic value systems. Can't tell you how any times I've heard, "But that's so unladylike".

At what age do you stop taking dares? That's all it is. They think they have to prove something?

I'm not saying that because men do something, every woman should. I don't do things just because men or anyone else does it.

But if men are allowed to do something, such as your example of casual sex, women should be allowed to do it too without any harsher judgment put upon them.
And that's what this statement is really about: It's about breaking down double standards and giving women the choice to participate in certain behaviors that men often take for granted, without being judged more harshly. But that doesn't mean that women (or men) necessarily should.

Women are expected to do it all nowadays and everything in that sense falls into that catagory. Women also find that controlling "all" that they have to handle; even if it is a "mans" job is much easier then having to slow down and ask for help or admit that they can't do it all.

To me the "I can do anything a man can do" ranges from wearing boxer, to building a shed, working on an assembly line or being a person in the military, women are all over the place :) But, we like it.

Just like some men have a "keep the little women in the kitchen, seen and not heard" mentality... but reality is that these are extremes. Most people tend to make up their own minds on different issues, and not just assume this general mindset.

As for casual sex, many young women test the waters to see if it is something they want or not... I am not sure if it is just because men can...

Because for generations men have been unconsciously denying all the good a woman can do. Men often sit around and think the same about women "if a women can do it I can do" yet we all have a weaknesses. It's not about the gender it's about the person's self ability. many people over look that. And for the most part women are just fed up and sick and tired of being a man's back bone for him and not getting any respect or attention. A good women takes care of her family and her husband...which can be a rather hetic task. If you don't believe it...step into her shoes for one day. women just want to be able to feel important and needed. And if that means being equal to a man then so shall it be. I believe that if guys would just show a little concern and appreciatation towards their women...we wouldn't have this problem.

I'm not saying all women are angels because we are not. We are human and make mistakes just like a man can, and yes I am sure men have been over looked as well. So when you hear a lady say that just remember this....for the most part it is true. Can you prove her wrong? if so you shouldn't be down on her because of that...she just has a longing to be important! simple.

I think womens movement have taken it ( womens rights) way to far....there are alot of things women shouldnt do...but we still do to prove a point!

Man and woman have equal nobility and opportunity for education. They all deserve due love and respect.
However, in serving mankind they have different fields and means. In the family, father and mother have completely different roles. Education will show us where we are the same, where we are different, and how should we co-operate to serve and to attain our self-realization.

Because we can...have casual sex. Why the hell shouldnt we do whatever we want if we have the means to do it.
