Resolved Question

Why do you believe in the Bible?

OK, say I buy that we can't know for certain if there's a God or not; by that logic it isn't possible to know anything *about* him either. So my question is, if you follow the teachings of the Bible, on what basis do you think it has unique information about God that trumps anything in alternative holy texts, or for that matter the personal beliefs of ordinary people?

The Bible is not one book but a whole library telling the story of the Jewish and Christian faiths. Some of it is history (but interpreted to suit the authors), Some of it is philosophy, some it is praise and worship and some of it is myths, poetry and stories used to communicate profound truths. It always needs interpretation and as it is translated it changes its meaning. It always needs interpretation and should not be read naively as if it was literally true.Even those who do that do not agree on its content because people interpret it though the spectacles of their own culture and presuppositions. It is therefore a dangerous book to be treated with awe and respect and full of revolutionary thoughts which if properly understood would change the world

The bible is primarily about Jewish people and their culture, and that is it in a nutshell. It is the same as reading about any other race of people and their culture. The only difference is many Gentiles (non-Jews) believe they actually understand the Jewish culture because they call themselves Christians. It is unfortunate.

my heart is touched when i read it. you're rught, there are no certainties. sometimes you have to go on faith, and accept that others have the right to worship (or not) according to the dictates of their own conscience.

honestly, i just can't think of a god limited to resembling a human. (physically, emotionally, everything)

and if there's actually only one, that god's an epic fail for being a loner all his godly lifetime. i feel sad for him!

It's all about the love of a God has for human beings. A strong enough love that he sent his only son to die so that we can live.

Doesn't that say enough?

What other "holy" text make such a claim? What other holy text author says he/she loved man so much they sent their own loved one to die for someone else even though they didn't deserve it?

I really don't think an old man built a wooden boat big enough to house two of every animal on Earth. Come on!
Does that even make one once of sence?

There simply is to much information that was written in it, that sophistacated and learned men did not discover till hundreds and sometimes thousands of years later. It is a unique book, there is none like it in the world. It's history and archeology is constently being proven accurate as well as many of the science disputes of the past.
I have seen the power of the Word of God change lives. From my experiances in life it has proven itself over and over again as the true word of God.
