Why do you think "spanking" is a good thing?

Spanking (hitting, in reality) is a popular way of punishing children. Children are often spanked when the parent has become angry or frustrated with their child. This act then becomes nothing about discipline or punishment but all about the parent trying to release their anger and acting out. Seriously, why do people think "spanking" is a good thing?

I think it's WRONG and shouldn't be done....
spanking teaches violence... when you get mad.. hit.. when someone does something you dont like... HIT... when you are frustrated and you don't know how to teach by communicating and thru respect... HIT

it makes ZERO sense

In my experience, it beat the hell out of getting slapped in the face.

because instinctively pain is bad and if the chiild associates somehting with pain they may think twice about doing it

my mother used to "slap my bum"...though there was no warning no kind of intensity or fear built up to it no bending over knee it was just a quick thing if id been naughty and to be honest i did sometimes think twice

I was spanked as a child , my mom never spanked me in anger , she would cool off first , tell me why I was being disciplined and then give me a spanking . Thats how I was spanked and I think I turned out ok . However I do agree a child should never be spanked in anger though .

All my children were spanked but never out of anger or flustration. The Government says now we parents are not to spank our children and look what is going on around you..But we can be held responsible if our children get out of line..
My 6 yr old grand daughter cusses her mom, throws tantrums, etc...and her mom continues to try the time out the school suggested,,when she's with me and her grandfather she doesn't pull that kind of junk because I will take time out to spank her bottom and she knows it.
Theres a difference in spanking a child to make them mind and beating them out of anger.

Seems to me that 'spanking' has become the socially accepted replacement word for 'hitting'. Either way ... i don't think it's a good thing.

It gets a child's attention. Hugs are better though. There aren't enough of those in most kid's lives.

Well put degenerate.... I agree 100%....

It also bets the heck out of getting punched in the gut or kicked in the head, in my experience.....

Heck, really if we are looking for abuse we should be more upset about blows to less padded areas, I think.....

It takes a lot of anger to spank hard enough with your hand( a spanking in my opinion is done with a hand or wooden paddle) or a paddle to break on bone....but a kick in the ribs did it for me....

Please spankings are not abuse....

Spanking makes your kids hard. All these whiny, bitchy emo kids were never spanked I bet. If they never have to deal with a spanking, other things in life will seem too hard or some **** and they'll end up killing themselves. I was spanked and I'm ****** awesome.

Whatever makes them remember why they got punished in the first place, a little discipline never hurt anyone except their pride, take em down a notch, show em who's in charge or they'll walk all over you. Give em an inch they'll take a mile, children like dogs need constant supervision and discipline in order to establish boundaries and limitations.

Discipline is a good thing. Both positive and negative re-enforcement yield good results, but only when applied in reasonable quantities. Some spanking is alright, but in many families it can be overdone. It is the first step of abuse. I know. I grew up in a very abusive multi-generational alcoholic family.

Most people older than yourself(Sorry!), would remember

a time when they had been spanked
..A good spanking never hurt anyone..Look at the crime
rate today!...if a spanking or cane could be used, surely a child would think twice about doing it again!

....Sorry!...Just my opinion!
