I think it small minded to equate non-believers with negativity.

Non-believers = Negativity? Uhmm....Im Christian and this doesnt sound very positive to me. Start by "looking at the man in the mirror".

I am a Christian and I must say that I know a fair number of very negative people who also call themselves Christian.

The illusion of dark and light, good and bad, believers and non-believers is so old, so engrained into our language and culture and world-view that we Westerners can't see reality for the distortion it creates.

The Zoroastrians (who are the fathers of the three great Western religions) posited all this war between Good and Evil BS thousands of years before there was a Christ or a Moses and certainly before there was a Mohammed.

They gave us the sad, useless idea of the "End of Days". They based that philosophy, in large measure on numerology (numbers were a new, hot, exotic science then) and they decided that all things were finitie, so there had to be a great culmination, a great summing up when the score would be counted and the dark team would be judged vs. the light team.

They felt it was absolutely necessary for the light to "win" and that we must struggle mightily every day lest the dark team, the team of Satan (yes that's their idea too) win.

How silly! If there were no light, there would be no dark - for how distinguish dark except as the absence of light and how distinguish light except as the contrast with dark? The same is true for all the binary pairs we humans fantasize into existence.

No coin has only a top, no up without a down, no left without a right. This is just basic reality - in spite of our carefully conditioned interpretations.

So, friend, although I admire you as a seeker - I must point out that your question is meaningless. Put your energy elsewhere.

being a "non-believer" does NOT mean that you are "negative". i lead a very positive and fulfilled life without subscribing to the man-made concept of a higher power. and what is more is that i can do so without you even accepting it.

No, we have negativity because of hipocrates and politicians.

I wonder when the world was ever better in your opinion... ?
If anything one can make the case that world has been in such negative state exactly because religion or believers (each one with their own God) prevent us from union?
Look inside yourself and in your heart, imagine that right now on the opposite side of Earth there is a person with a different God and religion and to whom you are the non-believer. Jews, Muslins, Christians... how long have you all been fighting wars in name of your God ? each one trying to prove their God is the real one. It just makes me laugh the idea that the world is a worse place because of the non-believers while most of the conflicts in this world has all the same source: believers that can't agree on what to believe in.
We were on a 'crusade' against islamics. They were in a Jihad against us. Israel is on odds with Muslins.... Protestants and Catholics in Ireland... You people will never coexist peacefully!
The world would be a much better place if we all were non believers of a mystic God and believers in the human race instead. Look inside your heart and with your instinct, think if it is not so.

Because us human beings have been hurting each other a lot and cause people to lose their faith. In God and in fellow humans.

I think there is equal parts of negativity and positivity, more or less, as there has always been.

Instant communications has totally leveraged the speed of information and news medias and such are still using the tactics they've had since long before.
They have become so sensationalized they completely blow any act of violence out of proportion. You hear about all these school shootings, right? Think it's a problem? Not really, teen violence has dropped significantly since the early 80's, right around the time video games started becoming a house-hold toy.

Whatever religion, philosophy, or politics a person believes in, it can not be expressed without causing offense to someone who believes otherwise.

The more people on the Earth combined with a far greater ability to communicate/travel long distances has made the world a much smaller place.
With nowhere to retreat (physically or idealogically) conflict over the very nature of mans existence is inevitable.

I am confused by what you mean by non-believers. You mean non-believers in your religion? As for me, I am a neo-pagan but I find great meaning in life. I repsect each and every person I meet. I respect and care for the nature around me. I try to think positively even when negative things are happening around me. I want to make a difference in this world for the better.
Besides, bad things have happened throughout history. In the ancient Israel, if a woman was raped by a man and she was unmarried she was forced to marry him. If she was married, she was stoned to death. That sounds kinda bad to me, and it happened thousands of years ago. At least they don't do that kind of thing in modern society now (at least I hope not)
