Why does a mature man refuse simple help when sick?

As I said RANDOMBLOKE1973 - this is the refusal of relatively SIMPLE medications but for symptoms that have caused the person to lose bowel control, vomit on themselves, miss time from work and others to worry they may need a trip to the ER. And there is NO dignity there with gowns that leave parts gaping, using a comode to take samples from and a plethora of Dr's & other health carers coming & going & where privacy is not easy to maintain.
Far from wanting to be seen as "bossy" & "take this person's dignity AWAY from them"....it is more likely the opposite.
If there were understandable reasons - NOT a BAD illness, not ongoing for several days & obviously causing prolonged misery for the person, or going against cultural etc beliefs, or not looking for 'natural' therapies as an alternative.... it would be easier to sit back & watch s'one be this ill w/out intervening. I work in the health field - once u r in the hospital, say g/bye to "Dignity" no matter how hard u try 4 yr patients.

IF he took your help, he might get well and hence have nothing to whine about.

4.5 days has a very good pont, I agree. In addition, men don't want to admit weakness...

My boyfriend is like this.

I blame his incredibly thick skull.

I love him despite his thick skull, though.

He is old, not mature. Mature man must take both physical and spiritual healing when sick. Otherwise it is really a bothering for other people.

I can relate to a point. I don't automatically reach for medicine. If I have a headache it usually goes away with a few minutes of relaxation exercises. If my allergies bother me, it passes with a little time, same with an upset stomach. I'm not opposed to medicine, I just give myself a chance to get over it naturally. People accuse me of being stubborn because I don't automatically take the medication they offer me. But, I am not a complainer. I don't whine about feeling bad. I just deal wtih it and people act aggrevated that I'm not quick to take medication.
